We can earn money through WOOFTRAX just by walking our dogs – in fact you don’t even need a dog, just a smartphone & good walking shoes! Download the app on your phone & follow the directions. (If Wooftrax doesn’t come up, try Walk For A Dog.) When asked to pick a shelter/rescue (ask to change if it shows the closest to your home) pick VA as the site, scroll to the M’s & select MAESSR. You will then be asked to verify email address. Keep following directions & the app will appear on your phone. When you tap it, enter your dog’s info & start walking. It is a simple process each time you go for a walk. Currently we have 28 active walkers. Spread the word – make your walks count!

Rainbow Bridge Crossings
ZACK 5 (class of 2017) came to MAESSR when his owner moved to a situation not suitable for him. Some would say that Zack was a quirky dog, and they would be right, but he was much more than that. He was funny, adorable and lovable to say the least. Always wiggling with excitement when family walked through the door or if it was walk time. He had a thing for paper goods and sneakily opted for a tissue or napkin over a dog treat although he never passed on one of those. Zack would show the side eye if he wasn’t pleased which meant to steer clear but was great with the grandchildren who said that Zackie is now a star in the sky looking over them. Adopters ELYSE SALADOFF’s family send a warm thank you to his foster DEBBIE LIPCSEY and to MAESSR.
GINGER 8 (class of 2015) was fostered by CHRISTINE LEE and JIM VEZINA. It was love at first sight for adopters MAXINE AND DAVE FOX and for the next 7 years, Ginger and Tommy 2 were inseparable (although Ginger was totally in love with Tommy, and Tommy just “liked” her!). Ginger achieved Therapy Dog certification and for 5 years visited local school children who either were on the autism spectrum or had various types of trauma. Soon after Tommy passed in 2024 Ginger was diagnosed with Cushing’s disease. Once therapeutic drug dosage was reached she was quite stable for 2 years but osteoarthritis took hold. A combination of medications, acupuncture, cold laser and e-stim was tried to alleviate her pain. But over the last 2 months, she had a faster decline and at the age of 13, it was necessary to say goodbye to their sweet girl.
BAILEY (TILLIE 4 – class of 2024) came to MAESSR when her elderly New Jersey owners realized that they just couldn’t provide her with the best environment to satisfy her zest for life and young energy. She was fostered by CHERIE FAIRCHILD and DEBBIE LIPCSEY and adopted by SHARON and MIKE SCATTAGLIA after unexpectedly losing their other MAESSR girl, Molly. Bailey loved her car rides, walks in the local park, and tennis balls. She loved to push toys under the sofa and then would loudly let family know that they needed to crawl on their knees to retrieve it for her. Bedtime was her favorite place to be when she would get as close as possible to Sharon and Mike. She will forever be loved and missed immensely.
