Dear MAESSR,
Our belovéd Reagan (MAESSR Class of 2023 - "Reagan 3") crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on April 17, 2026.
She was diagnosed in July 2025 with anal gland cancer in her right anal gland. The vet gave her (and us) 2-6 months. We were blessed to have an extra three months with her. She fought a valiant fight but last week we knew it was time to let her go. At least we'd had her three years and two days. A blessing!
She always ready for a walkie or to go out and chase those pesky squirrels. In fact, last Tuesday evening she ran after one that had the nerve to enter her fenced-in lawn!
Reagan kept her Dad (my husband, Walt) company once he retired last April and she plowed through the deep snows we had this winter.
But we knew this past weekend - and she shared with us in her own way - that it was time to leave us.
She was way too young and we had her way too short a period of time but she was treasure and we thank MAESSR for sharing her with us.
She went to work with me every other day for over a year. On those days, I was alone in the office and her presence beside my desk was a joy. She slept on our bed from the day she arrived.
Reagan was a "people" dog. She loved every person she met on our walk, pulling me toward each person who she greeted effusively. And people we encountered loved her, with one couple always providing treats (like she didn't get enough!!).
So the house is quiet, her bowl has been cleaned and put away, her treats and food have gone to the local shelter or to other dog-owner friends. But her spirit lives on the memory of a tri-color/liver ESS is embedded in our hearts and mind.
Thank you, MAESSR for giving us the opportunity to love and be loved by a very special, crazy, funny, loving English Springer Spaniel named Reagan.

CoCo Bean 1/29/26 💔

This post has been hard for me to write. On Jan 29th we had to say goodbye to our Sweet CoCo Bean. 🌈💔 🌈Our hearts are Forever broken. 💔We adopted CoCo thru MAESSR on March 26, 2023. CoCo was our oldest and most damaged Rescue. She was frightened of humans and ran from my hubby for 7 months. But, one day she realized he was a good guy who Loved her. From that point on, she slept on his side of the bed.💖We fenced in about an acre for Bean so she could run, run, run off the leash. She Loved her Puppy Paddock!💖

Our Sweet Bean was used for breeding until she was a senior and spayed late. This put her at a very high risk of developing mammary cancer. Coco was due to have her annual dental in November plus 2 mammary tumors removed. Lab results showed she had a very aggressive form of mammary cancer. 💔A month later more tumors appeared and my Vet said Bean only had a few months to live.🥲We continued to Love her and spoil her every day until the end.

Thank you MAESSR for rescuing our Sweet Girl. We are forever Grateful.💖💕💕💖Her Foster Mom Michelle Tasker gave her a soft landing and a safe home and Love.💗 We are so thankful. What brings us peace is knowing our Beautiful Bean knew she was Safe and she was Loved. We Miss Our Beautiful Bean So Much!🌈🌈🌈💔💔💔💖💖💖

We are devastated to share that our beloved Wren (Shania - MAESSR name) passed away on March 10, 2026 due to an autoimmune disease caused by her seizure medication. Wren was born July 24, 2021. She was fostered by Jeannine Bohlen along with Reba (her sister) and joined our family on November 13, 2021. The moment we met Wren we knew that she was meant to be a part of our family. She was a very loving dog, sharing kisses and snuggles as often as possible. Wren enjoyed playing ball, chasing squirrels, going for walks, camping, and anything that involved food! We have a ton of great memories that will help her live on in our hearts. We are forever grateful to MAESSR for the opportunity to share the past four years with Wren.

Loyal Competent Companion
December 1, 2013 – January 23, 2026

Our beloved Springer Spaniel Friday passed away this week, after nearly 10 wonderful years in our pack. As his 4th owners, he came to us as a 2 ½ year old rescue from Virginia, shy but unusually vocal, and a little bit sad. We named him Friday, knowing his potential for becoming Robinson Crusoe’s “loyal competent companion”, but also because Friday means good things are coming, our aspiration for him. Over the next two years he let us see his delightful personality and sense of humor, through intensive training and building his confidence by taking him everywhere, one step at a time. Ultimately he would cross the country with us three times by car and small plane, and in 2018 he would complete the journey across 26 states, as we landed our forever home in San Anselmo, CA. We shared quite a few family milestones over the next 7 years, walking everywhere since; he brought a big smile to every passerby. He enjoyed a great life full of favorite outings, hiking to picnics at Sorich Ranch, and getting into Town every day for gelato or at least a treat at the Marin Humane thrift store. He’ll never leave us.
