Lanie came to MAESSR when her Virginia owner had to go to assisted living. The family knew MAESSR would take good care of her.
Lanie is such a sweet girl that just wants to be with her people. She has great house manners, walks well on the leash, and does not counter-surf. At night she contentedly sleeps on a dog bed. She does well on car rides, too.
Still wanting to play, Lanie will chase a ball; however, she cannot fetch too many times because her knees hurt. Overweight when first arrived in foster care, Lanie was placed on a diet and successfully lost 15 pounds! She plays so much more now that she has lost so much weight!
Lanie is good at the vet and groomer. She was recently groomed and did great. The staff at the vet just loved her.
When Lanie came into MAESSR’s foster system, she had a number of health issues. She had a nasty UTI that had to be cultured twice and then strong antibiotics administered to get rid of all of the infection and the various types of bacteria. Around the first of February, further testing will be done to see if she is finally clear. Besides the UTI, Lanie has urinary incontinence which has been managed successfully with Incurin.
Lanie has bilateral CCL tears with arthritis around the joints and severe osteoarthritis especially in her elbows and stifles. She is on a hemp joint supplement and carprofen once a day for this.
Bilateral ear infections involving several types of nasty bacteria were first treated with several antibiotics. When those didn’t stop the infection, a very strong antibiotic shot was given three times a day. The ears are now totally cleared! Yeah, Lanie!
If all of this wasn’t enough, Lanie had a nasty yeast infection on her skin. It took many medicated baths and about 2 1/2 months of skin care to get the skin cleared. Kudos to her dedicated foster parents for bringing Lanie back to health!
Through all of her differing treatments and care, Lanie was the perfect patient. She was so sweet showing such patience! She will need love and care going forward, but whichever family adopts her is getting a true gem.
