We can earn money through WOOFTRAX just by walking our dogs – in fact you don’t even need a dog, just a smartphone and good walking shoes! Download the app on your phone and follow the directions. (If Wooftrax doesn’t come up, try Walk For A Dog.) When asked to pick a shelter/rescue (ask to change if it shows the closest to your home) pick VA as the site, scroll to the M’s and select MAESSR. You will then be asked to verify email address. Keep following directions and the app will appear on your phone. When you tap it, enter your dog’s info and start walking. It is a simple process each time you go for a walk. Currently we have 27 active walkers. Spread the word – make your walks count!

The MAESSR MARKETPLACE is open 24/7 for purchases. We’ve also got cool toys for man’s best friend and companion. The MAESSR store and website are in transition – thanks so much for your understanding while we make improvements to the store and website.

NEW TO THE LIBRARY! TINA – THE DOG WHO CHANGED THE WORLD (310 pages) by Niall Harbison. Hope taught me the meaning of life, Tina taught me the meaning of love. It’s not everyday you meet a golden retriever in Thailand. When Niall came across a dog shackled to a short chain and in a poor state of health something reminded him of his personal battle with addiction. He knew he had to rescue her immediately – golden retrievers are rare in Thailand – but there was just something about this dog in particular that told him she was destined for more. He named her Tina, and what she did next is an incredible tale of survival, hope and love. Despite her terrible treatment at the hands of humans, she refused to distrust them or feel sorry for herself, and only opened her heart wider – always with a grin (yes dogs can smile) and a reassuring wag of her shaggy yellow tail. From the minute Tina was free of her chains, she got on with what needed to be done, inspiring a dog hospital to be built and named after her and helping dogs from all over the world – whether they’re street dogs from Thailand or rescue pups in Montana. The movement behind Tina has not stopped. This is her story. Donated by Dave and Grace Miller.
WHEN PIGS FLY! TRAINING SUCCESS WITH IMPOSSIBLE DOGS (192 pages) by Jane Killion. Does your dog come when called, heel properly when you go for a walk, and sit quietly when you ask him to? If your answer is a resounding “No!” then you may think you have an impossible dog. But think again! Most kinds of dogs that people have trouble training (typically Hounds, Terriers, and some Northern Breeds) actually have many characteristics that make them quite trainable – they are smart, are good problem solvers, and have strong drives to get what they want. The key to training success with these dogs is to figure out what they find rewarding and then use those rewards to get the behavior you want. You’ll be amazed at what your “bad” dog will do when you know how he thinks and what turns him on!
