PAWS FROM HEAVEN: TRUE STORIES OF GOD’S AMAZING ANIMALS (379 pages) edited by Callie Smith Grant. From Guideposts: Treat yourself to a truly delightful new book of over 60 personal accounts of how God blesses us in refreshing and remarkable ways through the living example of our animal companions. Paws from Heaven brings you everything you expect from a wonderfully relaxing, inspirational read – a bevy of satisfying true stories by everyday people, with an affirming faith in God threaded through each heartwarming account.
THROUGH A DOG’S EAR: MUSIC TO CALM YOUR CANINE COMPANION, VOL. 1 CD. (Total running time 59m:58s.) Studies show these solo piano classical arrangements reduced anxiety behavior and induced calmness in 70% of dogs in shelters or kennels and 85% of dogs in households. What’s the secret? Thanks to their breakthrough research, conducted with veterinary neurologist Susan Wagner, Leeds and Spector have developed a unique understanding of how the canine nervous system responds to sound. Using that insight, they have created music shown to be twice as effective as conventional classical selections for soothing dogs. Through a Dog’s Ear brings you timeless music that you can enjoy with your furry companion—and, most importantly, will help your “best friend” live a happier and healthier life.
Rainbow Bridge Crossings
MAVERICK (RICK, class of 2012) transitioned peacefully just shy of his 14th birthday. He was born in JUDY MANLEY’s foster home and adopted by AMANDA SHOWALTER’s family. Mav progressed from tiny puppy to teenage terror to the very best dog and companion. He patrolled the backyard religiously, chasing out anything that might have been a threat to his chickens or his furry siblings. Many times, this resulted in skunk spray, having his nose stapled shut after fighting with a rat, a wrestling match with a groundhog, or endless laps around the yard chasing squirrels and bunnies. In his older years, he watched over the yard from his chair on the sun porch. Mav had arthritis in his hips and spine, and unbeknownst, was in kidney failure. He is going to be missed like crazy. Thanks to MAESSR for the work that they do and support offered during times of loss.
