BRAIN GAMES FOR DOGS – Fun ways to build a strong bond with your dog and provide it with vital mental stimulation (160 pages) by Claire Arrowsmith. This book provides more than just fun ways to challenge a dog’s thinking and puzzle-solving ability. Claire Arrowsmith strongly suggests that such challenges help build a strong bond between a dog and its owner. She examines the accepted evidence of the importance of mental stimulation and why it’s important to use only reward-based teaching methods. She also explains how to use hand signals and incorporate mental challenges and learning into everyday activities. Icons for each game indicate whether it is interactive, solo or group, where it can be played, the level of difficulty and whether any props or toys are used. Some of these great games are: Puppy Play – Hide and Seek – Carry It – Egg and Spoon Race – Mini Agility Course – Nature’s Obstacle Course – Find the Treat – Roll Over, Play Dead and other performance tricks. With straightforward text and full-color photographs, Brain Games for Dogs is a valuable guide to important elements for successful and fun dog training.

COLD NOSES AND WARM HEARTS (232 pages) by a compilation of great authors. When originally published in 1959, this marvelous collection of dog stories compiled by the late humorist Corey Ford was an immediate bestseller. For this edition, Ford selected pieces written by his friends and peers whose names appeared on the mastheads of The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, Life, and Colliers, including such greats as Thurber, Benchley, Wodehouse, White, Woollcott, and Marquis. Ford also provided balance with stories from Steinbeck, Lardner, Lawrence and others, including his own superbly poignant, original version of his classic short, The Road to Tinkhamtown. All the stories in Cold Noses and Warm Hearts share the same theme, whether underscored by humor or deep emotion: the strong, enigmatic bond between dog and master. Laurie Morrow is the official biographer of Dartmouth College, Corey Ford Archives, and is a frequent contributor to many national dog and sporting magazines. Donated by Pam Nealer.

LACEY DAY (CHIANTI , class of 2014) was rescued from a MD kennel which was closed. DEBBIE LIPSCEY and KIM BOLSTER fostered with TIM DAY‘s family adopting her. Lacey was certainly tender when she was adopted, but she developed beautifully in short order and was a loyal companion for 13 years. She might have pretended to be shy and reserved on occasion, but she lived exactly how she wanted to and always with a little mischief! To Lacey, thank you for your unwavering friendship and never-ending love – always on your terms! To MAESSR, thank you for Lacey. Although their hearts are broken, the Days so appreciate and value the happy times with Lacey – far more happy days than sad days – their hearts have been blessed more than words can describe.
