We can earn money through WOOFTRAX just by walking our dogs – in fact you don’t even need a dog, just a smartphone & good walking shoes! Download the app on your phone & follow the directions. (If Wooftrax doesn’t come up, try Walk For A Dog.) When asked to pick a shelter/rescue (ask to change if it shows the closest to your home) pick VA as the site, scroll to the M’s & select MAESSR. You will then be asked to verify email address. Keep following directions & the app will appear on your phone. When you tap it, enter your dog’s info & start walking. It is a simple process each time you go for a walk. Currently we have 28 active walkers. Spread the word – make your walks count!

BURIED DEEP IN OUR HEARTS – A NOVEL (326 pages) by Tracie Barton-Barrett. In the process of memorializing the animals, the community gathers together to honor and celebrate their animals’ lives. Resources and Reflective/discussion questions at the end of the book. “They are our companions on Life’s journey…and our memories of them will always be buried deep in our hearts.” Donated by Pam Nealer.

COCO 19 (class of 2023) came to MAESSR from a VA kennel. She was fostered by MICHELLE TASKER and adopted by the KASTENSMITHs. Coco was frightened of humans and ran from hubby for seven months, but one day she realized he was a good guy who loved her. From that point on, she slept on his side of the bed. About an acre was fenced so she could run, run, run off leash. She loved her puppy paddock! Coco was due to have her annual dental plus 2 mammary tumors removed. Lab results showed she had a very aggressive form of mammary cancer. A month later her vet said Bean only had a few months to live. She was loved and spoiled every day until the end. Thanks to MAESSR for rescuing this sweet girl – the Kastensmiths are forever grateful.
REAGAN 3, (class of 2023) fostered by EVA VAN STRATUM and adopted by WALT AND SUE JACOB, recently passed from anal gland cancer. Reagan was a “people” dog. She loved every person she met on her walks, pulling toward each person who she greeted effusively. And people she encountered loved her, with one couple always providing treats (like she didn’t get enough!) So the house is quiet, her bowl has been cleaned and put away, her treats and food have gone to the local shelter or to other dog-owner friends. But her spirit and memory lives on in the Jacob’s hearts and minds. Thank you, MAESSR for giving them the opportunity to love and be loved by a very special, crazy, funny, loving ESS named Reagan.
