OUTWITTING DOGS: REVOLUTIONARY TECHNIQUES FOR TRAINING DOGS THAT WORK (288 pages) by Terry Ryan and Kirsten Mortensen. Training dogs has traditionally been done by using negative reinforcement and brute force (take the choke collar as an example). But the tide is turning, and Terry Ryan, well-known dog trainer, is at the forefront of a revolution. Outwitting Dogs draws on her twenty-five years of hands-on experience helping people understand and train dogs, and solve dog behavior problems using kinder, gentler methods. Outwitting Dogs uses more brain than brawn to motivate dog behavior with positive training techniques, and helps readers truly understand their minds.
*REALLY IMPORTANT STUFF MY DOG HAS TAUGHT ME (170 pages) by Cynthia Copeland. Playful spaniels completely covered with snow—“There’s no such thing as ‘bad’ weather.” Two happy dogs sleeping, one on top of the other— “Sometimes you need a pillow. Sometimes you are the pillow.” The bulldog who’s headfirst in her bowl—“Every meal is THE BEST MEAL EVER.” Donated by Pam Nealer.

Rainbow Bridge Crossings
DALLAS 4 (class of 2025) was fostered and adopted by TOM SCANLAN’s family. Dallas worked his way deep in their hearts even though his stay was short. When he came, the vet called him a “hot mess” because of the multiple lesions on his body, goopy eyes, and infected ears. Through diet (no more Stovetop Stuffing and lunchmeat!) and medications, his health issues were under control. Dallas was a gentle giant at 70 pounds, getting down to 65. He and the cats got along just fine from the very start. He had a loud, deep bark when he saw people he didn’t recognize. Dallas was a true Velcro Springer who never liked family to be out of sight. Towards the end he became totally deaf and was losing his eyesight. Stairs became a challenge, and he couldn’t get up on their bed. He finally let his family know he was ready, but it still hurts deeply as he was a dear member of the family and is missed.
