We can earn money through WOOFTRAX just by walking our dogs – in fact you don’t even need a dog, just a smartphone and good walking shoes! Download the app on your phone and follow the directions. (If Wooftrax doesn’t come up, try Walk For A Dog.) When asked to pick a shelter/rescue (ask to change if it shows the closest to your home) pick VA as the site, scroll to the M’s and select MAESSR. You will then be asked to verify email address. Keep following directions and the app will appear on your phone. When you tap it, enter your dog’s in and start walking. It is a simple process each time you go for a walk. Currently we have 27 active walkers. Spread the word – make your walks count!
DOGWISE is another MAESSR affiliate whose mission is to bring humane, understandable and scientifically sound information to people who enrich their lives by working with, playing with and loving dogs. Many of the books, including the booklets, in the MAESSR library can be found at Dogwise.com. You can support MAESSR and get great training advice by shopping. They also sell some training products. Look for the $5 books on sale while you are there!
The Marketplace
The MAESSR MARKETPLACE is open 24/7 for purchases. We’ve also got cool toys for man’s best friend and companion. The MAESSR store and website are in transition – thanks so much for your understanding while we make improvements to the store and website.

*BONES WOULD RAIN FROM THE SKY: DEEPENING OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH DOGS (320 pages) by Suzanne Clothier. Clearly an animal lover, Clothier opens this training manual by recalling her childhood, when she pretended she was a dog. Rather than simply trying to “train” animals to behave in a certain way, Clothier focuses on improving the existing relationship between pet and owner. To help readers gain some insights into more effective training, Clothier offers anecdotes about her clients. Particularly important is the dog’s connection to the owner and the ability of the two to communicate effectively. “In each moment that you are with the dog, you must be aware, gently and persistently shifting the balance toward one of mutual agreement and cooperation. This is not easy, and it requires some thought. Most of all, it requires a desire to create-over and over again-the event of quality, which in turn creates a heartfelt commitment to truly being with the dog.” Donated by Fran Fisher.

THE CULTURE CLASH (257 pages) by Jean Donaldson. Written in Jean’s inimitably informal yet precise lecture style, the book races along on par with a good thriller. The Culture Clash depicts dogs as they really are – stripped of their Hollywood fluff, with their loveable ‘can I eat it, chew it, urinate on it, what’s in it for me’ philosophy. Jean’s tremendous affection for dogs shines through at all times, as does her keen insight into the dog’s mind. Relentlessly she champions the dog’s point of view, always showing concern for their education and well-being. Without a doubt, Jean’s book is the hottest doggy item on the market. Generations of dogs have been labeled training-lemons for requiring actual motivation when all along they were perfectly normal. Numerous other completely and utterly normal dogs have been branded as canine misfits simply because they grew up to act like dogs. Barking, chewing, sniffing, licking, jumping up and occasionally, (just like people), having arguments, is as normal and natural for dogs as wagging tails and burying bones. However, all dogs need to be taught how to modify their normal and natural behaviors to adjust to human culture. Sadly, all too often, when the dog’s way of life conflicts with human rules and standards, many dogs are discarded and summarily put to death. That’s quite The Culture Clash. Donated by Fran Fisher, Ann Davis, and Fran Hrastar.
