SCAREDY DOG: UNDERSTANDING AND REHABILITATING YOUR REACTIVE DOG (149 pages) by Ali Brown, M.Ed. CPDT. When dogs growl at other dogs, lunge at people, and bark at everything it’s often mislabeled as “aggression.” But most aggression is fear-based and should be treated as such. The appropriate term for this constellation of behaviors is “reactivity.” This book helps the trainer and dedicated dog owner to understand the reactive dog and help him change for the better. The process is not an easy one, but once the changes begin to take shape, owners become so encouraged that the rest of the process suddenly becomes easy! All training methods and classroom techniques are based on fun and on the development of a working relationship with your dog. 149 pages and 68 photographs and graphics to help you recognize and solve problems. Donated by Phyllis Chan & by MAESSR.
MY DOG PULLS. WHAT DO I DO? (59 pages) by Turid Rugaas. A 59-page book with easy-to-follow instructions that teach you a kind and effective method for encouraging dogs to walk on leash without pulling. Quick and easy to learn, the method can be applied to any dog no matter what size, breed or age. Dogs that are easily distracted, or that encounter situations where they may lunge, bark, or give aggressive displays can be helped to walk calmly and quietly on a loose leash. Donated by Phyllis Chan + Fran Fisher.
Did You Know?
If any volunteers wish to promote MAESSR and the work we do at an event in their community, please email VICKI PHILLIPS. These are marketing events only to hand out information.
We’re on Mastodon now! Twitter throttles low-follower accounts, making it pointless for us to post there. Come on over to Mastodon & discover lots of other wonderful animal rescue groups, dog owners, & shelters, & posts on any topic you can think of. It works much like Twitter, so the format will be familiar.
IF YOU SEE A SPRINGER NEEDING RESCUE: For a springer being re-homed in an ad on social media or in a newspaper, please email the RELINQUISHMENT TEAM. For a springer in a shelter, please email the SHELTER DOG TEAM. In your email include contact info such as links to the online post, shelter name, state, and phone number.
Did you move? Did you change your email address? ADDRESS CHANGES should be emailed HERE. On the website you can also set up an account under the Shop tab so that MAESSR can keep track of your mailing address; your email can also be changed under Your Account in the top right-hand corner with Edit Profile.
If you need advice regarding behavioral issues, certified and credentialed trainers that use positive methods only to help guide people to the correct resources can be found at CCPDT and IAABC.
