NEW TO THE LIBRARY! GOING HOME: FINDING PEACE WHEN PETS DIE (166 pages) by Jon Katz. In this invaluable guide and touchstone, New York Times bestselling author Jon Katz addresses the difficult but necessary topic of saying goodbye to a beloved pet. Drawing on personal experiences, stories from fellow pet owners, and philosophical reflections, Katz provides support for those in mourning. By allowing ourselves to grieve honestly and openly, he posits, we can in time celebrate the dogs, cats, and other creatures that have so enriched us. Katz compels us to consider if we gave our pets good lives, if we were their advocates in times of need, and if we used our best judgments in the end. In dealing with these issues, we can alleviate guilt, let go, and help others who are undergoing similar passages. By honoring the animals that have graced our lives, we reveal their truly timeless gifts: unwavering companionship and undying love. Donated by Grace and Dave Miller.
NEW TO THE LIBRARY! LIVING WITH A SPRINGER SPANIEL: PETE AND ME (97 pages) by Kathleen McKee. Living with a Springer Spaniel: Pete and Me is a humorous and loving tribute to a loyal, smart, and adorable pup who mastered the technique of training his owner. Springer spaniels are known for their hunting prowess, agility, and obedience. They are affectionate, expressive, and eager to please. Springers make a great family companion because of their steadfast devotion, but they can have a mind of their own. Living with a Springer Spaniel: Pete and Me is a compilation of stories and anecdotes about Pete from the time he was a puppy until he went to doggie heaven. You’ll laugh at Pete’s antics as he taught life’s important lessons for dog ownership and puppy training, clearly expressing his springer traits. Donated by Cathy Moyer.
Rainbow Bridge Crossings

WREN (SHANIA – born in a litter in MAESSR care in July 2021) passed away due to an autoimmune disease caused by her seizure medication. She and sister Reba were fostered by JEANNINE BOHLEN, and she was adopted by EMILY GAYDOS’ family. The moment they met Wren they knew that she was meant to be a part of their family. She was a very loving dog, sharing kisses and snuggles as often as possible. Wren enjoyed playing ball, chasing squirrels, going for walks, camping, and anything that involved food! They are devastated by her passing but have a ton of great memories that will help Wren live on in their hearts and are forever grateful to MAESSR for the opportunity to share the past four years with Wren.

MAISY 2 (class of 2019) was fostered by JEAN BARD and adopted by BARB MOYER’s family. Maisy loved playing ball, chewing up stuffed toys to remove the squeaker, and taking many walks. Before her 6th birthday, she was diagnosed with Progressive Retinal Atrophy. Despite this, she adjusted well to a move to their new home. Maisy loved the smells of wildlife, visits from grandchildren, and walks. After she lost her vision, she still loved snuggling, licking Ron’s hand, and begging for “snacks” at mealtime. She was diagnosed with Cutaneous Lymphoma before her 10th birthday and fought hard as Maisy loved life! Thanks to MAESSR for sending Maisy – she was loved and will be missed!
Permanent foster KELSEY came to MAESSR in 2024 in very bad health when her owner died. The vets were not sure Kelsey was going to make it, but they did not realize what a FIGHTER Kelsey was. This girl was amazing. When she decided she wanted something, she was going to get it. She was with her foster DEBBIE LIPCSEY the entire time she was with MAESSR. Kelsey was her foster mom’s shadow. She was a sweet and loving girl, always wanting to be close to her people. Her foster home is very sad that she is gone and really miss her. Run free, Kelsey – you were loved!
