IT’S A FUNDRAISER! To mark 25 years of MAESSR, we’ve launched a t-shirt fundraiser. You can choose from two t-shirts, a long-sleeve t-shirt, or a crewneck sweatshirt in a variety of colors. All proceeds help MAESSR continue to find homes for Springers in need.
Featured Dogs
Check out our senior/special needs dogs! Our program, SENIORS FOR SENIORS, charges a $75 adoption fee for adopters aged 60 and over who adopt dogs nine years old and older or special needs dogs. If interested in one of our senior/special needs dogs, contact Candi Lynn here.

Featured Library Titles
*PARENTING YOUR DOG (256 pages) by Trish King, CPDT, CDBC is one of the only books on the market that applies specific human parenting techniques to multiple aspects of canine ownership to ensure a happy and well-behaved family dog. This revised and expanded edition of the highly respected and successful original features updated text, full-color photos, and a quick-reference format that makes the step-by-step training instructions easier to master. Written by an internationally renowned animal educator, this comprehensive guide analyzes each stage of a dog’s physical, mental, and emotional development through puppyhood, adolescence, adulthood, and senior years and presents numerous similarities between child parenting and dog parenting, with an emphasis on understanding the canine psyche. The use of positive, reward-based care and training shows how to identify and adapt to the stages of your dog’s life with the right techniques to address problem behaviors and help your dog adjust to and become part of the family dynamic. Sidebars in each chapter provide case study examples and proactive checklists to monitor training achievements. Donated by Phyllis Chan & Cathy Moyer.
*Recommended by the Association of Professional Dog Trainers.
AM I SAFE: THE ART AND SCIENCE OF CANINE BEHAVIOR ASSESSMENTS DVD (3 h. 44 m.) by Sarah Kalnajs. Thousands of unwanted dogs enter shelters and animal rescue groups each year. Some have detailed histories provided by the families who surrendered them, and others arrive with little or no background information. The challenge for caretakers is to determine which dogs are safe to be placed and create a comprehensive personality profile of these dogs that can be used to match them with the best possible new homes. Dog professionals specializing in training and behavior are often called upon to help assess dogs for not only shelter and rescue organizations but also for families needing to re-home their dogs. This video provides start-to-finish instructions for completing an assessment that is safe for the handler, fair to the dog, and has excellent predictability of future behavior. All support materials are provided, including a resource guarding scale and evaluation form.
Library Wish Lists
The TRAINING LIBRARY has TWO Wish Lists. New or used titles can be purchased from the Amazon list; Dogwise has new books and DVDs. Purchases can be shipped directly to the library. Pretty quick and easy way to help out MAESSR as well as educate adopters!
