When Zoey’s New Jersey family had to radically downsize, MAESSR was tearfully contacted to see about finding new homes for Zoey and her nine year old daughter, Tippy.
This super sweet senior is completely housetrained and has outstanding manners. She is very content to give and receive love, eat, and take naps. Zoey does not counter-surf or beg for food; however, she sits close by and makes certain that no one tries to steal her foster mom’s food while she is enjoying it. Zoey’s always hopeful that she might be rewarded with a taste if she did a good job!
Zoey is very much a people lover and, although there are no children in her foster home, she is reportedly excellent with children having been raised with newborns all the way up to teenagers. She was used to sleeping with family members and is a good cuddler.
Zoey walked into a foster home with resident dogs and one visiting dog and she did great! She has never shown any guarding issues with food or toys. Good girl! She may have played a bit with toys when she was younger, but no longer. She is just content watching the other dogs play.
Reportedly, thunderstorms, fireworks, very loud wind, and gunshots will upset her and she seeks out a dark, sheltered spot to hide in. Although she has not had any encounters with cats while in her foster home, Zoey reportedly chased cats outdoors; it is unknown how she might react to an indoor cat or other animal indoors.
Despite not having had any formal obedience training, Zoey does know some basic commands including “sit,” “paw,” “lie down,” “come,” and “move.” She pulls a bit on a leash as she is not used to leash walks. She was good in the car, but she did pant heavily at first before settling down to lie on the back seat. Zoey is not crate trained and panted heavily at the groomers. She was bathed and trimmed and was great for everything else. She will be going back for a shave down for the warmer months.
Zoey is in good health but has a touch of age related arthritis. She was used to being free-fed and has to lose weight—about twenty pounds—which may help her joints. She is on a very strict diet eating ¾ cup of kibble twice a day and very limited mini-biscuit treats. In the long run, this weight loss will help her live a longer happier life.
Senior Springers make wonderful additions to any family. You will never regret bringing beautiful, sweet Zoey into your life!
