Zinger the Springer came to MAESSR via a New Jersey shelter, where she was adopted and returned because of her energy! She is an affectionate, cuddly, bundle of puppy love!
Although she was reserved with the resident and foster dogs in her new home, she has made her place in the pack rather quickly. Now, she loves to play with them and seems to have unbridled energy! When pack members no longer want to play, Zinger takes their correction well. She will wait a bit and then rub up against the dog she wants to play with until he is willing to play again. If no other dog wants to play with her, Zinger can be happy just running outside! By following the resident dog’s lead, Zinger quickly learned to use the doggy door to get to the back yard. Meeting the resident cats went relatively well. After an initial smack down from the more assertive cat, Zinger prefers the calmer cat and she will just sniff at her. Good girl, Zinger!!
Even though this leggy puppy is really too big to be a lap dog, don’t tell her! Zinger loves to be held and will readily snuggle her head into her foster mom’s neck. Her foster mom has also found a magic touch to calm her down: just rub her neck! She loves to be scratched there and will willingly stay for lots of scratching! A social pup, Zinger will do well with children, preferably older than eight since she may accidentally knock down younger children due to her high energy level. Zinger is very good with meeting new people and is very happy to meet and greet.
This smart little girl already knows how to “sit” and is learning “wait” and “down.” When Zinger is told to come in from the yard, she comes flying! Good girl! Her leash training is a work in progress since she does pull a bit, but with consistent training she will learn to walk properly. Zinger will benefit from the mandatory obedience training that MAESSR requires of adopted dogs less than a year old.
Being fed is always an exciting activity for Zinger. When her foster mom is preparing doggie dinners, Zinger will sit and watch and wait until the food bowls are distributed. When Zinger sees the food bowls are being moved, she quickly runs to her crate where she gets fed. The food bowl can be taken away from her with no issue, except maybe a look from Zinger saying, “Hey, I wasn’t done!”
This puppy loves to play with toys and she carries them around in her mouth, waiting for her foster mom to take one from her and toss it so Zinger can leap to catch it! Zinger also thinks trying to get the clothespins off the wash line is great game. If clothespins or toys are not handy, Zinger likes to try to catch her tail!
Crate training is going exceptionally well for Zinger. After eating or when her foster mom comes home, she will be found sitting near the crate’s door, tail wagging, waiting to be left out. During the day if Zinger wants to nap by herself, she will go to her crate for a couple of Z’s. When bedtime rolls around, Zinger settles into her crate very nicely for the night. She is very reliable in her housetraining too. A curious girl, Zinger will check out the counter to see what is up there, but quickly gets down when told, “Off!
Zinger would love to have a home that will fill her life with lots of love, lots of neck scratching and lots of activities. If you are ready for some major puppy love, then Zinger the Springer is your girl!
