Update 2/21/04:Zeppo went to his forever home!
Update 1/5/04:Zeppo has been treated for heartworms, and seems to be doing fine. He has coughed up some blood, and we’ve been back to the vet once. They think he was actually reacting to the aspirin, so we now have him on a non-aspirin medication for blood-thinning and he hasn’t coughed up any blood. Everyone at the vet’s office thinks he’s wonderful. He gets along great with his foster brothers, and even plays with the youngest (spaniel mix Bailey) in a low key way a couple of times a day. He is a real sweetheart. He is rarely food or toy possessive, and isn’t gobbling his food any more, although he still eats healthily. He isn’t counter-surfing or hitting the garbage can anymore too. His coat is in much better shape, and his hair is starting to grow back. He has the saddest eyes, and just loves attention, a major belly-rub guy. He is getting better with housebreaking (almost there), and does fine in the crate. He goes back after Christmas for a check up, and he gets another blood test in early January.
Original:Zeppo is a liver and white neutered male, who was rescued in the nick of time. He is field bred, and has the longer docked tail of a true sportsman. He definitely has had some training. He sits and fetches beautifully. He seems very sweet, and has settled right in with his foster brothers. He is heartworm positive, and will be undergoing treatment shortly. He also has a skin condition, mostly brought on by an allergic reaction to fleas. He is on medication for that too, but we should see a difference in two weeks. His body looks rather moth-eaten at the moment, but his head indicates that he will have beautiful fine soft hair, once he gets healthy.
Zeppo is very thin, and was a ravenous eater when he first got here. He was stealing everyone’s food and surfing counters and the garbage. After just five days of regular meals, he has stopped stealing food from the other dogs (although he will clean up their bowls when they’re done). Zeppo does not seem to be used to being inside a house, although he’s figuring it out. He is not completely housebroken, but making progress.
