Update 08/18/11:
Zephyr is getting freckles but not as many as his sister Daisy Duke. He’s a very handsome little guy! He keeps his crate clean and is learning “outside and get busy”. He still has an occasional accident indoors but is making great progress with housetraining for his age. He is learning to sit (and to settle down) when leaving his crate and is good at coming to his name. He is beginning to learn about leash walking with the help of the 4 year-old granddaughter in his foster family. She also will sit in front of his crate and read stories and sing to him. This calms him down every time. He will play tennis ball toss with her too!
This pup’s idea of fun is to find a good branch to chew on. He is just a love bug and is soooo laid back. He is happy following his family around and exploring outside. His foster mom had to get after him for terrorizing some plants in her gardens, but it was just so much fun playing hide and seek in them he couldn’t resist! Zephyr loves movie night with his family. He got to watch Rio recently but like most young ones, he fell asleep on his foster mom and dad’s laps before the movie was over.
Zephyr is getting a very fine start in life. His training will continue with his forever family; they will commit to taking him to obedience classes during his first year. What fun Zephyr will be in Puppy Class 101!!
Original:
A litter of Springer puppies usually means a celebration, but when finances are difficult, it can bring worry for a responsible owner. Zephyr and his littermates’ owner contacted MAESSR for help in getting these Springer pups off to a healthy, good start. So, in the dog days of summer, there is puppy breath in MAESSR-Land!
Using this Dog Days of Summer theme, each of the seven puppies from this litter received a fitting summer time name. When the temperature soars, people look for relief from the cool west wind. MAESSR’s has its own little breath of fresh air, Zephyr.
Zephyr truly fits his name. He not only “blew” in from the (south)west, but he would disappear just like the wind when he first came into foster care! Initially, he was the pup clinging to the back end of the crate who would then disappear between boxes or whatever he could find to hide behind as soon as you were able to get him out. In contrast, he is becoming braver and more adventurous every day. Now, instead of disappearing like the wind, he runs like the wind exploring everything around him!
He and his sister, Daisy Duke, get along with their foster furry sisters and brother and are being taught proper dog manners by the adult members of the pack. In addition to enjoying canine company, Zephyr loves to be with his people. He likes nothing more than to follow you around and snuggle when it is time to settle down. He is progressing well with housetraining and he was very good at his first vet visit.
Watch for more on this sweet windstorm!
