Update 09/14/10:
Zena’s personality is really starting to come through. From the time she wakes up till she turns in at night, this fun loving girl is ready to play. Even going potty takes a backseat to a game of fetch; ¦when Zena remembers she needs to attend to business, she will take a potty break, a toy still in her mouth. When she has to stop to get a drink, Zena drops the toy in her water bowl where she can keep an eye on it, take a few licks, and then is off to find a playmate again. While Zena gets along with all the resident dogs and will play with them, she definitely prefers her human family if they are around.
This very special, loveable, and energetic dog is ready for her forever home. She is healthy, active, and raring to go! Her only requirement is that she ends up with a family who loves to play fetch. Is your throwing arm ready for Zena?
Original:
Once again MAESSR has come to the rescue of an unwanted and, in Zena’s case, misdiagnosed cutie. Zena was brought to a North Carolina shelter by her owner who said she was female aggressive. Well, her foster parents know otherwise now. Zena is energetic and full of life. Her favorite pastime is “play, fetch, eat and play some more.” All she wants is love, hugs and a family that will adore her. Here is a bit more on this sweetie!
When her foster parents picked her up from the shelter, Zena was so glad, though admittedly, not at her best. She was really nasty looking and smelly, yet she could hardly contain herself when meeting her foster angels. She even got to meet her foster “fur family” right off because Zena’s parents were just coming home from vacation. Though all stood off a bit, “hellos” were said. Possibly something to do with her smell? Suffice it to say that Zena was taken immediately to her family’s groomer for an emergency make-over, and, BOY, did she look, feel and smell great when she arrived home.
Zena’s family also got an early indication of how she does with children because of that visit to the groomer. The groomer had her 6-year-old niece at the shop when Zena was in and, after Zena was cleaned up, the niece took her outside to potty and was hugging her. What a Norman Rockwell moment!
Once home Zena examined every room in the house because she went where ever her foster parents went. She is a Velcro Springer, and, yup, she just wants to hang out where her people are. She knows basic commands like ”sit,” “no,” and “stay.”
She is rarely found without a toy because she is always looking for someone to play with. Zena can be a bit of a hoarder too so her foster parents are teaching her to share. She loves to fetch toys; one can’t say she gives them up easily because she does love to tease. She will go to her playmate, and, just when one reaches to get her toy, Zena may quickly veer off in the opposite direction. Sometimes she will let her human get a hold of the toy so the game can become a lively tug of war. Her foster mom says Zena really has some strong gripper action. She prefers to play with one of her foster parents but is up for a romp with anyone! She will play tug with the resident dogs too, both male and female. Resting is not her thing!!
Zena loves to go for car rides and is leash trained. She only pulls if she sees a critter, though if it’s a cat, she will just sniff it and go on to look for something else. When her foster parents aren’t home, she will readily go into her crate, though once when they were only gone for a couple of hours, she ran free indoors with the other dogs and got lots of hugs for not doing anything she wasn’t supposed to while they were out. At night, she will sleep in her crate but she will also settle alongside her foster mom in bed if allowed. She doesn’t trash dive. She doesn’t counter surf either, maybe because she can’t reach up that far, but she does love to hang out in the kitchen because she loves to eat.
When thinking about a perfect forever family, Zena’s wish list is easy. She would like an active family that will include her in the midst of their daily activities. She would enjoy children and another dog if possible. She does love to play and, if she has a choice, that is what she would do all day long. She would also love to have a big treasure chest full of all different kinds of toys– the more the merrier!! So, what do you think? Is this the perfect girl for you?!?!
