Original: “Zeke thinks that squeaky toys are the next best thing to food, but his goal is to tear them apart, so hard rubber squeaky toys would be a good idea.”
Meet Zeke, an easy going, sweet guy who loves hanging out with his foster brother. Zeke came to MAESSR because of changes in his first two homes; his second home planned to travel and realized that Zeke was anxious in a car. This lucky, jolly fellow from Maryland found his way into a loving MAESSR foster home where he is learning new skills.
Zeke knows most of the basic commands, “sit,” ”down,” and “stay.’ He seems to enjoy his daily walks with the resident male dog but does bark at anyone coming toward him. Anyone passing him or being passed by him doesn’t faze him in the least. Zeke doesn’t show any sign of aggression, just excitement. When nervous in a new situation, he just shuts down.
This little pup does not necessarily enjoy riding in a car–he whines and shakes. But he gets in and out of the car without protest, so the foster parents are taking him for a ride each day to the park or pet store to show him that a ride is a fun experience.
Zeke gets along well with the resident Springer; the two boys are great play buddies. However, since the resident male dog does not share his toys very well, toys are only allowed with supervision. Zeke thinks that squeaky toys are the next best thing to food, but his goal is to tear them apart, so hard rubber squeaky toys would be a good idea. The dogs are fed at the same time but in adjoining rooms and with supervision. Zeke shows no signs of resource guarding either food or balls.
As for house manners, he is a wonderful guest and has complete run of the house day and night. Zeke is completely housetrained and will go to the door when he has to go out; his foster parents are encouraging him to ring the bells as a signal. He sleeps happily at night on one of the doggie beds in the foster family’s home and does not show any interest in sleeping on furniture. When the dogs are left alone, they use the time as an excuse for a nap.
This is a happy guy who will fit in with any home with our without a 4-legged friend. Spring is just around the corner (or so the groundhog says) and what fun some family will have with this charmer.
