Zeke has been adopted!
Original:
Zeke was abandoned in Lancaster and found his way to a home where there were two other dogs and several cats. He was taken in by the family who contacted MAESSR for help in placing him. He gets along great with the other animals. Wherever he came from, he must have been used to being in a house because he has free run of of his foster home and has never been destructive.
Zeke does not take well to the crate but his foster home is working on it with him. Zeke much prefers to sleep in the bedroom with his foster family. He curls up on the floor at the bottom of our bed and doesn’t stir all night until the alarm goes off. He does have great hearing and will bark to let his foster parents know when their daughter comes home late at night after they are in bed.
The vet feels that Zeke spent time in a crate in the past because she sees some wear on his teeth from chewing on it. He submits to being in the crate while his foster family eats because he can see them. He hasn’t needed to be crated when left alone.
However, he is a jumper! He can jump a 32 inch gate very easily. One time he cleared the whole kitchen counter without touching anything on it! He is very sweet and loveable and is most happy when playing with you. He does not play tug-of-war at all, doesn’t seem to know why he should. But he does love to chase after tennis balls and will play for hours if you are up to it.
Zeke will climb on the furniture if left alone. His foster family is working on discouraging that habit. As soon as the humans leave a room, he jumps up onto the couch, chair or bed to take a rest! He rides well in the car and he loves to put his head out the window and feel the breeze. He gets along with everyone and loves to see new people who will pet and play with him.
His foster family cannot imagine why someone would abandon him him unless they only wanted a good hunting dog. He doesn’t seem to go after any birds or other animals so perhaps this was his failing.
Zeke is very quiet and doesn’t bark a lot unless he is playing with our dog or to let us know someone is visiting. He has had no accidents in the house and only tried to mark twice before realizing that was not acceptable.
Zeke is very content to lie beside his foster parents while they are working on a project but is very nosy and follows them everywhere to see what they are doing. He will lie right behind you when cooking and you have to be careful not to step on him!
He gets along great with the other dog in his foster home. He loves to run with him in the yard and tries to beat him to the tennis balls when we play fetch. We have not yet had the opportunity to see how he does with small children but we expect to check that out soon.
Zeke will make a wonderful companion for any family who can give him love and attention.
