Zack was surrendered to MAESSR when his Pennsylvania owner moved to her son’s home. The family felt Zack would not be happy in that situation and made the extremely difficult decision to let MAESSR find him a new forever home.
Zack has been started on an inexpensive medication to help his anxiety. He is not destructive when he is anxious. He just wants to be with his people and will whine until he gets his way. Mr. Z was crate trained as a pup, and, in spite of spending long hours in a crate, never seemed to mind being in one. He has not been crated in years and now is allowed full freedom in the house.
This handsome young man has not had obedience training. He does know “sit” and will usually come when called unless he is busy with a squirrel—he does chase squirrels and chipmunks and might possibly chase cats also if they ran as those other pesky critters do.
Outside, Zack walks “pretty well” on leash, and, although his owner did not trust him off leash, she does not think he would run off. He likes playing ball but will only return it once and has had little exposure to swimming. He uses a harness while riding in the car and does well traveling that way.
Inside, MAESSR’s new fellow is an alert barker. While he does steal paper napkins and tissues, he does not chew anything but cardboard and paper. And, although he tries to counter-surf, he is not very successful at that task. He will, however, beg for food and needs help learning not to jump on people he knows. He does not like the sound of the vacuum cleaner but copes by simply leaving the room.
Zack was professionally groomed every six to eight weeks with no troubles. The groomer never reported problems handling his feet or ears although his owner did have difficulty with those long Spaniel ears.
This boy is a wonderful snuggler. He is willing to take a nap with you or keep you company on the couch as you watch TV. He is very affectionate and sweet.
