Original: “Zach’s foster mom feels that he probably would be happiest as an only dog, but feels visiting dogs would be fine.”
Zach was surrendered to MAESSR by his Virginia family because of his escalating aggressive behavior towards the young puppy in the home. After having owned Zach since he was a puppy, it was a difficult decision for his family to make, but they were sure MAESSR would find him a wonderful new home.
In his foster home, Zach has displayed wonderful house manners. Housetrained but not crate trained, Zach is trustworthy when his foster family is out of the house, so he is given free run of the house. He is used to getting up on the furniture and occasionally begs, but he is not a chewer or a digger or a barker.
Although Zach has not had any formal obedience training, he knows how to “sit,” “come,” and “heel.” He is friendly to people he meets on leash walks, but he barks at other dogs. When greeting people, he does not jump up on them. Good boy, Zach! Also, he rides well in the car. Reportedly, Zach is fine with grooming, except trimming nails.
Zach gets along with almost all of the other dogs in his foster home (and there are several). He does grumble at other dogs if they approach while Zach is being petted or loved on. His foster mom feels that he probably would be happiest as an only dog, but feels visiting dogs would be fine. Zach lived with cats in his original home with no issues.
When he came to his foster home, Zach had nasty bilateral ear infections. Now, his ears are looking great! Since he also had a significant urinary tract infection, Zach received a round of antibiotics and now is on a second round since there were some residual issues which should be cleared soon. The antibiotics have helped an infected sebaceous cyst on his back, too.
According to his previous owners, Zach has always been an anxious boy so MAESSR’s vet decided to put him on an anxiety medication to help get his anxiety under control. It has done wonders for Zach. When he is anxious, Zach is not destructive; he just acts hesitant about everything. Now that he has been on the medication for a while, he is doing so much better.
This sweetie loves to cuddle and be with his people. Someone is going to get a really nice Springer boy when they adopt Zach.
