Update 10/30/11:
Yoshi qualifies for MAESSR’s Home for the Holidays program. For dogs in this program, adoption fees will be waived through the end of the year. Help a special Springer’s wish come true – welcoming one into your home may be the most heartwarming gift of this holiday season!!
After six years in an adopting home, Yoshi was returned to MAESSR. Sadly, his owner suffered an injury that made it impossible for her to ever care for her dogs again. YOSHI IS A BIG LOVE BUG! This boy is about as laid back as a dog can get, taking the changes in his life in stride and always willing to do what is ask of him.
Yoshi is completely housetrained and gets along with all the dogs in his foster home. He is not interested in the resident cats and has shown no aggression over anything. He will even let his foster mom take a bone out of his mouth with no complaint – good boy!! He will bark at visitors when they first come into the house but stops as soon as his foster mom tells him all is OK.
Yoshi knows sit and come. He has no bad habits AT ALL, with the exception of thinking his bed should be the sofa. He is good on a leash and is trusted off leash. Jumping into the car is not a problem for this boy; he loves car rides and does very well when out for a road trip.
This gent is a delight; he loves everybody and thinks he is a 68 pound lap dog. Yes, he is a big boy! He may be 12 years old, but no one has told Yoshi. He has the energy and agility of a 6 year old. Although he is not much attracted to toys, he loves to be outside exploring and enjoys running and playing with the other dogs in his foster home.
If you are looking for a companion who will give you all the love and attention you deserve, this is the boy for you. All Yoshi wants for Christmas is a new forever home.
Update 1/13/04:Yoshi has found a family to share his love with.
Original:
Yoshi was found in wandering the streets and taken to the shelter. His owners were unable to be located but his foster family is sure he was a beloved pet to someone. He developed a slight case of kennel cough and possibly coccidia during his stay at the kennel and is under treatment for both. Otherwise, he is in excellent health.
His coat is absolutely beautiful and his foster family sometimes calls him curly-butt because he has some curls around his rump that will not sit down no matter how much he is brushed.
He was named Yoshi because it means peace or quiet and that really is a very good description of him. He rarely barks, except at night when they try to have him sleep in the crate. He figured out very quickly where the foster family sleeps and once he did, there is no keeping him in the crate. He barked non-stop until 1AM until the foster family brought him upstairs to their bedroom. He promptly fell to the floor at the side of their bed and went to sleep. That spot has become his and he will not sleep anywhere else. He stays there all night until the foster family wakes in the morning. He does not climb on the bed unless asked but loves to be asked up so he can romp with the family!
He will sleep in the crate during the day and often goes in to take a nap. He knows the crate is his spot and deposits his toys there when he is not using them but don’t expect him to sleep all night there!
He is great with all types of people and is not scared of crowds or children. He does not jump up on people when they first come in and doesn’t bark at strangers as long as his foster family is nearby. He does not even bark when he has to go out. He runs to the door, then back to his foster family then back to the door to let them know he has to go out. He considers himself a lap dog and will jump up on any lap if called up.
The foster family has not seen him get up on furniture unless he is given permission. He has excellent house manners and doesn’t chew on anything but he will carry around any excess clothing he finds lying around. He loves to root through the laundry to find an article of clothing to carry around with him. He does not beg for food but lies quietly beside the table while the family is eating.
He has not had much exposure to other animals yet because of the kennel cough treatments but the foster family will be testing that shortly. Another foster family had him for a short time right out of the shelter and they had a dog and a cat and Yoshi had no problems getting along with them. His foster family has a 7 yr old male and they get along great. He travels well in the car, curling up on the back seat to sleep during the trip.
In short, he is the perfect dog as far as the foster family is concerned. He gets along with everyone, doesn’t bark excessively or beg at the table, has great house manners and is a big, lovable lap dog. He is very playful and loves to play tug-of-war with any tug toy and will not chew down on anyone’s hand even while roughhousing.
The foster family has pulled beef bones from his mouth while he was chewing on them and he doesn’t growl or snarl at all. He waits patiently until he is given back his bone but he will stare with such sad and trusting eyes until he is given it back. He loves to chew on the beef bone even after all the meat is gone.
Yoshi is such a sweet and lovable guy that his foster family will have a hard time parting with him. Whoever adopts him will get a wonderful companion who will give many years of love and devotion to the person who opens their heart to him.
