Update 2/28/05:
X-man, now Gromit, is doing just great. He’s a total love sponge and gets a lot of attention from his humans, He even has his own website at http://www.pakayaker.net/gromit.html He loves to play with toys in the living room, and is a welcomed sight as he socializes on daily neighborhood walks. He looks forward to getting some more kayaking in this year, and enjoying some warm weather for a change. His humans have been pretty active in supporting MAESSR as well. He’s does well in crates when at the groomers, and even at the vet… though has a reputation when it’s time to check his temperature. Who can blame him?! He’s otherwise happy, playful and doing great. Check his website for more updates/pics.
Update 1/13/04:
X-Man has been adopted into a wonderful family!
Original:
If you’re looking for a young, smart, athletic, trainable boy, X-Man is the guy for you! He’s about 2 years old, black and white, neutered, house-broken, UTD on shots, very healthy, and heartworm negative. He still has his tail and front dew claws. X-Man came to MAESSR with almost no information, so while he is good with most other dogs, he is unknown when it comes to cats and children. He was rescued from a high kill shelter in Maryland and arrived at his foster home without any basic training, but now knows “Sit”, is learning “Down, and “Lay Down”. Hand signals are used with “Lay Down” and he’s getting those as well. He learned how to use a dog door in both directions in under two hours, does not chew the furniture, and does not counter surf, although he will put his paws on the counter to see what his human is doing. However, he has not made any food grabs off the counter even though this boy was extremely hungry and underweight when he arrived. Crating is probably not an option for him due to the negative experiences he’s had with them prior to MAESSR. He’s handsome, with a lovely coat, and has a soft mouth (treats can be given and fingers are safe). He still has his trust in humans, craves affection, and tries to please. He is a truly super boy for someone who can give him the time and love he deserves.
X-Man’s foster mom thinks he needs to go to a home with a active, healthy adults who can enjoy all his energy. He needs someone who can provide him lots of time for exercise and energy usage! She also thinks he’d be a super candidate for someone who would like to get into obstacle courses and/or frisbee games.
