Original: “This laid-back Velcro dog loves to be near his people and follows them from room to room to stay close.”
When Winston’s male owner died and his female owner had to go into a nursing home, their daughter contacted MAESSR to find a wonderful new home for her parents’ handsome Virginia boy.
Starting a new life, Winston was given a new name by his foster dad—Wilson. A true Southern Gentleman, Wilson is quiet, polite, gentle, and amiable. Foster dad hardly knows that he’s around and has yet to hear him bark. He has a soft mouth that will take a treat from one’s hand without one even knowing that it’s gone.
This laid-back Velcro dog loves to be near his people and follows them from room to room to stay close. He shouldn’t have any problems with children and he gets along fine with the resident cat. In his previous home, Wilson lived peacefully with a Sheltie.
Presently, Wilson lives on seventeen acres in Virginia just down the road from the Springerfarm. There are no fences and Wilson has the run of the yard. When inside, he spends a lot of time on the sofa or beside his foster dad’s chair. He has had no problems when left alone in the house and doesn’t seem interested in the garbage or counter-surfing. His foster dad hasn’t found any toys yet that Wilson is interested in but they did play for a while with a squeaky ball.
Wilson is fully housetrained but it is unknown whether he was ever crate trained. Since his house manners are so good and he has full run of the house, this is a moot point. Wilson knows “sit” and “come” and seems to recognize “stay.” He’s fine on a leash and rides well in the car.
Wilson was okay with the groomer and the vet called him “a sweet boy.” Blood-work showed that he had a touch of Lyme disease so he is receiving antibiotics for that. At eleven years old, he has some osteoarthritis in his left knee and lumbar region for which he gets pain meds.
Senior Springers are the best! They love being with their people and don’t require a ton of exercise. Why not enjoy Wilson’s golden years with him as a loving companion? You will be so happy you did!
