Winston is a wonderful dog who loves to be around people and other dogs. His favorite activities are swimming, riding in the car and hiking in the park. Winston is a very intelligent dog who can sit, stay, come, roll-over and he is a very pleasant dog to take for a walk. He is easily motivated by food treats so he is easy to train. In the home, he will always want to be near the action. He is a very good watch dog and is protective of the family. He has shown some signs of aggression when he is in a confined space or among a great deal of commotion.
If he is backed into a corner he will lift his lip if a stranger tries to pet him. His bed is kept under the kitchen counter and if a stranger approaches him in his “den” he will growl. He does this behavior more now since the birth of the children-that is why they are concerned. He has NEVER shown any aggression toward the children, in fact he is protective of them. He has never bitten but he scares people when he lifts his lip and snaps. He is very protective of the children- their concern is if the babies get mobile and approach him while he is in his bed that they wouldn’t know to back off if he would growl. The only other incident he mentioned is that the dog does not like people sticking their hands in the car trying to pet him. He is very protective and territorial in the car. He growls when people do this. Winston loves to be around other dogs and he currently lives with a cat so he is OK with cats. He actually defers to the cat. The cat eats Winston’s food out of his dish. He shouldn’t go into a home with little children who don’t know about heeding the warnings of a dog. Older children, like teenagers would be OK. This dog has been to obedience school and can do many tricks. He does have a skin allergy and is on some medication for this to control the condition.
Winston’s owners are going to try and work things out themselves.
