Original: “His absolutely favorite thing is food; he has decided that it is fun to go in the kitchen, stare at the counter and bark with the hope that it is mealtime.”
Winston and his sister Kira became MAESSR pups when their Maryland owner became ill and had to rehome the Springers in his breeding kennel.
Winston has been having great fun with his sister Kira, running around the yard, finding interesting things in the dirt, and generally being a happy-go-lucky puppy. His absolutely favorite thing is food; he has decided that it is fun to go in the kitchen, stare at the counter and bark with the hope that it is mealtime. As with his sister, he is highly food motivated and will be easy to train with treats. He has responded very well to learning “sit” and “stay” and his foster parents are working on positive training with treats to accept a crate. He currently stays in an exercise pen indoors with his sister through the night or if his foster mom needs to run errands. His housetraining is coming along nicely. The majority of time he will do his business outside if taken out regularly and he has even gone to the door several times to ask to go out.
Potential adopters should note that MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs one year old and under to enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption. Winston is a smart little pup and should be a star pupil!
Winston has been on a few outings and has done well. Not much seems to faze him and he enjoys interacting with people of all ages. Winston’s vet visit went fine; he has not demonstrated any evidence that he is apprehensive or fearful of any new situation. He settles down quickly in the car after a few minutes of whining, but once he realizes that the car means he is going somewhere fun that this won’t be an issue in the future.
Some of Winston’s favorite activities are wrestling with his sister and chewing on bully sticks. He enjoys his rope tug toys and anything that squeaks. He is definitely a snuggler and enjoys cuddling up next to his foster mom for a good belly rub.
Winston is all around a great little guy, full of life and lots of love.
