Say hello to Winston, a gentleman in every sense of the word–easy going and well mannered. Winston came to MAESSR when his owner, who had had him since he was a pup, became ill and was no longer able to care for him. This is one tall Springer, 24 inches tall at the shoulder. He sometimes acts like a puppy, showing he is so happy with his freedom to run around in the yard.
Winston knows most of the basic commands–“sit,” “down,” and “stay.” He loves morning walks with the other dogs; at the first sign of his leash he’s bouncing and ready to go. On a recent visit to the local pet store he made friends with everyone. He rides quietly in the car and was excellent at his recent vet visit.
This “most happy fella” is completely housetrained and will go to the door when he has to go out; his folks are encouraging him to ring the bells. He sleeps happily at night on one of the doggie beds in the foster family bedroom. His previous owner allowed him to sleep in the bed, but since the first few days he has not asked to get on the bed or furniture. He can be a little vocal, and his family is still learning his signals.
He has no interest in the resident parrot which is good since he’s so tall. He gets along great with the other two Springers in the house and will sometimes initiate play. The resident male dog does not share his toys very well, so toys are only allowed with supervision. Winston will chase a ball in the yard, but does not retrieve.
All the dogs are fed at the same time but in adjoining rooms and with supervision. Winston has shown no signs of any food guarding. They have complete run of the house day and night. When left alone, the time is just an excuse for a nap!
MAESSR’s new senior is a wonderful guy who will fit into most any home. He is used to being an only dog, but has adapted well to having brothers. What fun he’ll be this spring and summer chasing balls in his furever home.
