After found wandering the streets of a Pennsylvania town, Winston was taken to the local animal shelter. He was just terrified there, so the shelter manager contacted MAESSR for help. Now, he is very happy living with his foster family.
Winston loves everyone, greeting all with a wagging tail and eagerly jumping up for a scratch! He and the resident cat have reached an accord and he loves the resident dogs. He readily shares his food and water with them and enjoys playing tug-of-war with them. Winston also enjoys playing with all sorts of squeaky toys.
Both housetrained and crate-trained, Winston sometimes goes to the back door to signal his need to go out. Generally, he just goes out when the resident dogs go out. When his foster family is gone for a period of time, Winston is crated; other than that, he has free run of the house. At night he sleeps with his foster parents and the resident Springers on the bed, but sometimes he gets down and prefers to sleep on the floor.
A very laid-back boy, Winston loves to snuggle with his humans. He will get up on the couch with them to watch television. If they scratch his tummy and give him hugs, he is one happy pup! He is beginning to give kisses in return. As a Velcro boy, he follows his foster mom around everywhere. Sometimes whimpering in his sleep, Winston stays close to her to feel safe.
For a young Springer, Winston has fairly good house manners. He doesn’t counter-surf, get into the covered trash can, or chew inappropriately. Not a big barker, Winston does woof if he hears someone or something outside or at the door. His repertoire of commands needs expanding with some obedience training since he just responds to sit currently. His leash manners are pretty good considering he probably had not been walked often. Car rides are fun for Winston and he likes the window cracked so he can scent the air.
Winston was a very good boy at the vet’s office. The vet found a skin problem with his ears causing hair loss. Antibiotics were prescribed and now Winston is recovering well with his fur growing back. This good boy also didn’t mind having his ears cleaned! Although it does not bother Winston, he does have an umbilical hernia which the vet feels is fine to leave alone.
Soon Winston will be ready to join his forever family who must be dedicated to giving him lots of exercise, training and love. He will give them a lifetime of loyalty, love, and joy in return.
