Original: Winston came from a Pennsylvania shelter where he and his housemate Crosby were relinquished due to a divorce.
Winston is adjusting very well in foster care and is getting along well with the resident Springers. The resident Queen Springer does not care much for Winston, but he is doing a great job at avoiding her and thus avoiding conflict. He is not aggressive at all. His foster parents think Winston is one of the best-behaved Springers they have ever seen! Housebroken, he comes to his foster parents to let them know when he needs to go out. He has full run of the house and has had no issues; thus, he has not needed to be crated. At night he sleeps either on the floor or at the foot end of the bed at night. If some scent catches the attention of his nose, however, he will counter-surf, but he seems not to be interested in the trash.
In the car, Winston is a great passenger and is always willing to go for a ride. Always willing to go on a walk too, he gets excited and pulls on the leash, so his foster parents are currently working on leash training. Winston loves to play with one of the other resident Springers and they get along very well. He is not food or object aggressive with either dogs or people. Winston has plenty of energy, but most of the time one hardly knows he is around. He is well-behaved in the house and listens very well. Winston would do very well in any home with enough time to work on his leash manners and offer regular exercise.
Friendly with everyone and everything, Winston is always a happy boy and especially enjoys children of all ages. Do you need a friendly, playful Springer to complete your family?
Update 10/19/09: Winston’s recent vet appointment went well. He is very healthy and weighed in at 58 pounds.
Nothing has changed with Winston. He continues to be a boy with no problems. He is as well behaved as the resident Springers but did give his foster dad a workout last week. Winston was allowed off lead for the first time and he took full advantage of it. His foster dad is convinced Winston was going back home because he trotted down the lane without any intention of coming back. He never left the property, but he made it about 2 miles down the lane with his dad jogging in pursuit. Whew!! Winston’s new adoptive family will need to use caution until he is well adapted to his new home. Jogging after a Springer doesn’t hold a candle to jogging with one.
Winston is a great boy and will make someone a great friend. It won’t take long for this incredibly handsome Springer to find a perfect match.
