Update 07/08/2024: Rainbow Bridge
Willow’s foster family had been working with this beautiful girl on her issue of not liking to be restrained or touched on certain areas of her body. When she was injured, as much as her family wanted to help her, it became apparent that no one could do so without danger of being hurt. Reluctantly and sadly, the decision was made to send Willow to the Rainbow Bridge. Run free, sweet girl!!
Original: “Sweet Willow is a true Springer who enjoys being with people and whose tail never stops wagging.”
Willow came to MAESSR because her Pennsylvania owner needed to travel to Canada for an extended stay to care for her mother.
Sweet Willow is a true Springer who enjoys being with people and whose tail never stops wagging. Housetrained, she has had no accidents in her foster home. She will go to the door to indicate she needs to go out and if her person does not notice her at the door, she will come “talk to her” to let her know her needs. She is crate trained and sleeps in a crate at night. Willow has been both crated and left uncrated when her foster parents have not been home and there have been no problems.
Some of Willow’s house manners need improving. She will pick tissues out of the trash and dropped dryer sheets off of the floor. Reluctant to give these “prizes” up, she has growled when her foster parents have tried to retrieve them. Treats are a hot commodity for Willow and she will easily exchange treats for her ill-gotten booty. She will counter-surf and if there is food left unattended on the kitchen table, she will help herself. These inappropriate behaviors are being addressed by her foster parents.
A “young” six years old, Willow has the high energy typical of many field-bred Springers. Understandably, her favorite place to be is outside. She loves to run around the fenced-in yard sniffing all of the scents and chasing birds as they fly overhead. Because of her high prey drive, her forever home should probably not have cats. Willow does not play with toys but loves her ball. Her ball is her prized possession and she does not like to share. Willow is having issues with the resident female ESS but reportedly did well with male dogs belonging to family members in her previous home.
This good girl will “come” when called in the yard even when there are distractions; however, she is not trusted off leash outside of the fenced yard. Her owner would take her on walks two to three times a day. She does not pull on the leash. Willow rides well in the car, crated for safety.
Watch for more on Willow as her behavior continues to unfold in her foster home.
