Original: “This exuberant, playful little sweetheart adores every human and fellow dog that she meets!”
Young Willow lived with her Virginia owner since she was a little puppy. Although her owner loved her dearly and worked with her on training, she realized that Willow needed more activity and stimulation than she was able to give her. Overwhelmed yet realistic, the owner contacted MAESSR knowing we could find her lovely puppy the active home Willow needed.
This exuberant, playful little sweetheart adores every human and fellow dog that she meets! Willow thrives when she has lots of company and activity. She attended doggy daycare once or twice per week at her original home. Her foster home has many resident and foster Springers so Willow has a built-in doggy daycare. Right through the doggy door, she and her friends are in their fenced yard playing!
Willow is housetrained as well as crate trained—reliable and accident free! Good girl! Her original owner worked from home and Willow spent her day rotating between her crate, the office, and outdoor potty and play breaks. Willow has quickly adjusted to the routine of her new foster home, sleeping contentedly in her crate at night. She has been to the groomer too and did very well! Overall, she is a happy little one.
Still very much a puppy, Willow can also be quite willful at times and firmly needs to be reminded that her foster parents are in charge and not her. She still shows some puppy mouthiness but is responding well to training to stop this behavior. She has her own supply of chew toys around to give her alternatives to a hand. Her original owner invested a lot of time and energy in Willow’s obedience training and she knows her basic commands. She even knows “place” when it is time to go to her crate.
Please note that MAESSR will require Willow’s adoptive family to take her through a series of obedience classes within 90 days of adoption. MAESSR only places puppies – even older ones – in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience. MAESSR believes the decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. Willow will be a star pupil!
Willow has some health issues which are being treated with medication. She has had a couple of seizures in the past and is now receiving anti-seizure meds. She has the occasional skin or ear infection and has been switched to hypoallergenic food per vet recommendation. Generally, she is a healthy girl.
Willow meets every person and fellow dog with 100% jubilation, but her jumping and enthusiasm can irritate senior dogs or those not in the mood to play. This greeting behavior also may be frightening to really young children. Gentle, constrained introductions have worked well for Willow to meet toddlers, sniffing them while being held by her owner. Willow just loves children!
Willow will flourish in an active, full house with lots of playmates who will rub her tummy and run and play with her. She would benefit greatly from another dog in her forever home who could mentor her and provide ample playtime given her high energy level. Consider bringing Willow into your home and heart!
