Update 11/27/11:
When Willow first arrived in MAESSR’s care, it seemed as if he was adjusting to the abrupt changes in his life and could be placed with an adopting family, once his dental needs were met. Unfortunately, as his interaction with the MAESSR volunteers and resident dogs around him continued to emerge, it became certain that he would not be suitable for adoption.
Original:
Willow came to MAESSR when his Pennsylvania owner suddenly passed away and there were no family members able to have him join their family. Willow was then signed over to the local animal control facility and scheduled to be euthanized because he was a senior boy and said to be temperamental. When a MAESSR volunteer went to the shelter to check on Willow, she found a dog that was actually quite the opposite in personality: a sweet, lovable, teddy bear of a boy.
As a MAESSR dog, Willow’s first experience was going to get a much needed bath. He was a perfect boy while in the bathtub and really seemed to enjoy the attention. Willow did not mind having his feet washed, ears cleaned, or face washed; he even enjoyed the blow dryer! Willow then went for a ride and was a typical Springer passenger, sitting and looking out the window until he got to his temporary foster home. This boy was greeted by the resident canines and felines as if he had been there before and was back again to visit.
Willow displayed perfect house manners at his temporary foster home. He did not jump on furniture or counter-surf, and he even went to the door to signal that he needed to go outside for a potty break! Willow was a funny boy outside. He was not fond of going out in the rain or of the grass for the first few days, but he was still very good on his leash.
Willow also had a vet visit and met other dogs and humans while there, all with no problem. The staff immediately fell in love with him and the vet was able to examine him without as much as a flinch!
While Willow was in his temporary foster home he resided peacefully with several resident dogs and cats. He became quick buddies with one dog in particular, and the two of them were often found sharing the same bed. How sweet!
Willow has moved on to another foster home so he can get treatment for his dental issues. Keep your eye out for updates on this adorable guy – it won’t be too long before he’s looking a forever home where he can spend his golden years!
