This is what we know about Wibb from his temporary foster mom:
Well, Sir Wibb has landed, and I am smitten! What a little charmer! What a little butterball! I got him yesterday- I was prepared for his physical condition, knowing he was in a shelter so long- smelly ears, pee stained coat, etc.- I wasn’t prepared for this little angel to creep into my heart in about three minutes.
Typical case from what I could get from the shelter assistant – Wibb had belonged to a family if not his whole life, then a very long time- she said they had gotten calls from the wife that he had growled and tried to bite the children and had “chewed up the furniture”- husband called later and said he couldn’t bring him in- wife called again mad, etc. – the worker said they finally told the owners just bring him in, and they would find him a good home.
When the husband brought him in he said Wibb had not chewed the furniture but had stood on the sofa and scratched it and that he growled at the kids if he had a bone or was eating (and his point was?) Anyway, he later called and felt really bad but still left the dog where he was.
Anyway, the worker said Wibb was very unhappy there and had lost a lot of weight! This guy looks like somebody held his nose and blew in his mouth! I can’t believe he was more overweight than he is now – he got into my car like he had always been with me – a little anxious on the way home, but we stopped to pee again and he went right to sleep – we got home, and I put him in our fenced yard and let Tucker loose and Wibb behaved like a champion with my fool – they remind me of Eeyore and Tigger- Wibb plods- no waddles -along and Tigger/Tuck bounces along annoying Wibb- but Wibb just ignores him- once inside we had dinner. Fortunately, Tuck is not possessive of food, toys or bones, just annoying.
I purposely put Wibb’s bowl of crunchies and turkey a foot from Tuck’s – nary a peep from either one- I even took his food from him and he just looked at me like “did I do something wrong?”- afterward they traded bowls back and forth then went out side – Wibb doesn’t seem to understand the dog toy box, but he loves bones and they traded those happily back and forth all night.
We went for a walk before bed, and he responded well to short jerks to stop pulling – he obviously knows the leash and to sit – he went into his crate like he had always lived there, not a sound all night, not one accident and he really stands up well to my Tuck.
His worst habits? So far, he seems to try to climb up on the sofa – with his weight, up and down is no mean feat – and he likes to spread his kibble, one by one, around the kitchen floor, one by one, when he eats- my older Springer used to do that then go back and eat them later. He has had the run of the family room and kitchen and has not tried once to chew or bite or anything. He needs his rabies shot and a bath and a haircut – we’ll get those today and that’s it.
Update: Wibb went to his permanent home this Easter weekend!
