Update 06/08/11:
Most incoming springers are promising for placement from the first day they step into foster care. Most need a little time to settle for their true temperaments to emerge. Sadly, Whitt proved to be unsuitable for adoption after time in his foster home and time with other volunteers who assist with evaluating the dogs in MAESSR’s care.
Original:
Whitt came to MAESSR from a rescue group that got him from a shelter in Alabama. He was initially very nervous and generally anxious from his long trip to Pennsylvania, and, seemed to really appreciate his first calm night in his foster home.
Since then, Whitt has really settled down. He became accustomed to his new housemates quickly and seems to enjoy the company of the resident Springer. Whitt can be a bit defensive when it comes to food and, although he is improving in this regard, the two still eat separately to avoid any conflict. Whitt’s personality has started to come through and it is quickly growing on his foster parents! The real show is the greeting at the door when they come home from work; they are the absolute center of Whitt’s world for five minutes a day!
This easy-going, laidback dog is generally a well-mannered house guest. He sleeps in his crate at night and when his foster family is out, as Whitt can get a little aggressive with the resident cats. He will pick from the counter if given the chance, something his foster family is working on with him. Whitt is house-trained and good about going outside. He is learning the boundaries of his foster home’s property and is getting better about being off-leash. On leash, Whitt is very calm and well-behaved.
Whitt would do well in a family with kids and another dog. He is a happy boy who loves attention and will easily return the love his forever family shows him by being their faithful companion.
