Original: “Whitley is one of the sweetest, most gentle Springers his foster mom has ever met!”
Whitley and three other Springers came to MAESSR when their Tennessee owner started having financial issues. He loved his Springers, but knew MAESSR would find them homes where they would be loved and receive good care.
When Whitley came into MAESSR’s care, he had a myriad of health issues. He was/is heartworm positive and Lyme positive, he had hookworms, was anemic, had spondylosis in his spine, was about ten pounds underweight, and desperately needed a dental. It turns out that the spondylosis in the spine was from his being hit by a car when he was very young. In foster care he has been treated for the hookworms and has gained ten pounds! When he went in for neutering, he also had dental treatment. The vet had to extract six teeth! He is now receiving treatment for the Lyme disease and had his infected ears cultured so that the most effective antibiotic would be used to clear them.
MAESSR elected to go with the slow kill method of heartworm treatment. The “slow-kill” method involves giving the infected dog monthly Heartgard tabs over the course of a year. (Doxyclycline therapy is sometimes done as part of the treatment as well.) At the end of the year, the dog is re-tested for heartworms. MAESSR will supply the medication to the dog’s adoptive family and will pay for the follow-up vet visit and heartworm test. Although most dogs are heartworm-free after one year, MAESSR will pay for another year of treatment if the dog is still heartworm positive.
Whitley is one of the sweetest, most gentle Springers his foster mom has ever met! Everyone that has met him has fallen in love with him. Now that he is feeling better, he will jump and spin around when his foster mom gets up in the morning. He will lean up against her so he can maximize the attention he receives.
This sweet baby loves to swim and is wonderful on car rides. He is a perfect gentleman who has excellent house manners. And, he ADORES people. Outside, he walks well on a leash.
Once this boy recovers from his neutering and tooth extraction, he will make some lucky family very happy.
