Wesson and his housemate Smith were relinquished to MAESSR by their owner because a new granddaughter in the family had asthma and terrible allergies. No matter how much the owner cleaned the house and kept the dogs away from her, the grandchild had an asthma attack. So, sadly, the owner had to find these Springer boys new homes and MAESSR came to the rescue.
Wesson is a very laid back, love bug who has adjusted well to living in his foster home. He is the ultimate velcro dog who follows his foster mom all around the house. He doesn’t want to miss something good that might be happening!
In his foster home there is a resident six-month-old Springer who Wesson loves to play with! He also has learned to respect the space of the resident twelve-year-old Pointer. Besides playing with his foster sister, Wesson has not shown any interest in playing with other toys such as a ball. He watches with amusement as his foster mom and foster sister play ball. He has even run up to the ball and pounced on it, but does not pick it up. He does enjoy chewing on bones and other appropriate chew toys that he is given, though.
When not playing with his foster siblings, Wesson is the ultimate couch potato without the couch! He knows to stay off of furniture and has made no attempts despite the resident puppy’s frequent forays onto the couch. He enjoys looking out the opened front door and watching the world go by. Occasionally, he will bark but is easily quieted. Wesson also enjoys sunning himself in the yard!
Wesson’s manners are impeccable. He does not counter-surf, pick the trash, or beg. He waits patiently for his foster mom to prepare his food and serve it to him. He has no qualms about any person or dog approaching his food; he is not food aggressive at all. He knows basic obedience commands such as “sit” and “down” and will come when you simply call his name. He also does not attempt to run out the door ahead of his foster family, either. In the car, Wesson rides like a pro in the back seat. He does need some work on his leash manners, though. He is just so excited to be out and about with all the new smells, sounds, and sights that he pulls on the leash. His foster mom is working on this behavior with him.
Being crated for extended periods of time upsets Wesson. When first crated while his foster family was at work, Wesson obviously had made attempts to get out of the crate. Now, he is given free run of the house and has not gotten into anything that he shouldn’t have. However, he has had a few accidents while left alone. His foster mom believes that this is because he is not accustomed to being alone for such long periods of time. When his family is home, he has not had any accidents in the house and will sit by the door to let his people know that he needs to go outside.
His foster mom has not observed Wesson with children, but his original home reported that he is very good with youngsters. He was also a very good boy at the vet’s office for his check up, even meeting and greeting another canine patient and wagging his tail at a cat. Wesson was patient as the vet examined his infected ears and he has been great when his foster mom administers his ear medication. Earlier, he allowed her to clean his ears and paws and comb him without any problem. Although he does not complain about his ear meds, Wesson does not like to take his pills, but he will take them with some peanut butter and cheese!
Wesson is a sweet boy with lots of love to give. Won’t you consider making him a part of your family?
