Original: “Wendy is an utterly delightful seven year old lady who loves nothing more than to be with ‘her’ people and follow their every move!”
Wendy’s early years were spent having many litters of puppies; she did not have sufficient time to just play and learn how to be a well-socialized dog. At the age of five she was rescued by a wonderful Maryland couple who took her into their lives and gave her all the love and attention any dog could want. She lived with a cocker spaniel and cats happily, enjoying life immensely. Sadly, this family had major medical issues and were not able to care for Wendy the way they truly felt she deserved; fortunately, they contacted MAESSR who welcomed her into its extended family.
Wendy is an utterly delightful seven year old lady who loves nothing more than to be with “her” people and follow their every move! She is settling into her new foster home and loves to play with the other three dogs and all the children that constantly run around the house. Although she can be a little nervous at first, especially of boys and men, when kindness and gentleness are shown to this lovely lady, she quickly comes around and will prance and spin with excitement the next time she sees that person.
She is fully housetrained and learned to use the dog door in the first ten minutes–what a bright young lady she is! If she is unable to use the dog door, she will circle around her person to show she needs to go outside. Although Wendy has occasionally submissively urinated when meeting a new male, that habit seems to cease once she meets the same person a few times.
Wendy can be crated but does not like it too much–not surprising really considering she lived in one her first five years of life on a near constant basis! Should she need to be in a crate, Wendy is not disruptive and does not bark but those beautiful mournful eyes will certainly let folks know that she would much rather be by their side with her head leaning up against their leg to let them know just how much she adores them. When her foster family is out of the house or bedtime is near, she is kept in a sunroom and is very happy to settle down with her favorite chew toy, have a good clean and then nap until her family returns or morning comes.
This beautiful girl knows “sit” and “stay” and is doing a super job learning all her manners inside the house. She only chews on her toys, doesn’t try to get into the trash cans and has only been seen counter-surfing one time. She is gentle at feeding time and has no food or toy guarding issues whatsoever. Even when one of her favorite squeaky toys was shredded by the resident foster beagle, she didn’t seem to mind and still carries what’s left of the toy around when she wants to have a “chew.” She likes to go on walks, is learning not to pull on the leash, and is very friendly, if a little timid, when she meets other dogs. Wendy rides well in the car and is also very well behaved when she goes to the groomers or the vets.
The energy level of MAESSR’s new girl is medium to constantly bouncy! Visitors can’t believe she is seven years old as she has the energy of a two year old! She just LOVES life and wants to enjoy every moment of kindness and attention that comes her way. She is super gentle, intelligent, kind, and her foster family just adores her.
Wendy is a gentle soul with eyes to match her personality. A home where she does not need to be crated would be best for this lady. She does well when left on her own in the house but having one of her humans around some time during the day would certainly be on her wish list! And someone who can occasionally throw her tennis ball so she can bound around and bring it back would be a real bonus. Wendy is a truly wonderful lady who deserves love and friendship.
