Update 08/23/10:
Wendy was reluctantly returned to MAESSR when it was discovered she appears ill at ease with small children. Her adopting family reported she would allow small children to approach her for pats but then was unpredictable in that she would bark at them. Given this outcome, it’s probably best if Wendy goes to a home without children or visiting children. It is felt she would be fine with teenagers and she also is fine with all adults, including visitors. However, Wendy would prefer a household that is generally on the quiet side.
Since returning to her original foster home, Wendy remains her same sweet self. She is a little shy initially but doesn’t take long to warm up to people, particularly when they allow her to approach them. She continues to display impeccable house manners. Wendy walks very well on a lead and is trusted off lead. She has full run of the house day and night but will go into a crate if asked. She loves car rides and is a great passenger. She’s quiet in the house and, while she loves being with her people, she is okay when left alone.
Wendy would love to be the apple of someone’s eye. She only wants to please and tries very hard to make everyone love her. It’s not hard to do so. Are you the right family for this little sweetheart?
Original:
Wendy was relinquished to MAESSR after she and the male dogs in her Virginia household began to fuss. She had been bred several times and it was felt she now deserved a different lifestyle.
This pretty, tri-colored girl was a little shy and timid on arriving in her foster home, but has settled very nicely into the family. Miss Wendy has wonderful house manners. She’s completely housetrained, doesn’t jump on people, doesn’t get into the trash except for the odd tissue, and does not counter-surf. Obviously used to watching the cooking channel, she will very attentively watch her foster mom cook! So far, she has not attempted to help, however. At night Wendy would prefer to sleep in the bed, but quickly gets off when told. Wendy is comfortable in a crate, but has used one only a few times in her foster home.
Quiet, very responsive, and obedient, Wendy knows “sit,” “come,” “down,” “off,” and “paw”– her favorite! She loves to go for car rides, and sits or lies quietly without the need for any restraint. Did someone say, “Walk?” Wendy enjoys walks and handles herself very well on lead. She is also trustworthy off lead. Quite playful, she delights in fetching her racquetball and carrying it proudly through the house.
While on walks, Wendy has ignored most dogs. She has exhibited mild interest in the one cat she encountered, but quickly lost interest. She will very half-heartedly chase rabbits. When meeting new people, she is a bit shy, but if people let her approach them, she does just fine. Wendy has not been exposed to small children; however, since she is a bit timid, she would probably do best in a quiet household with either no children or with middle-schoolers or older teens.
Although Wendy is a sturdy girl who is a bit plump just now, she will probably slim down with some work on her diet and exercise regimen. She was very good during her vet visit displaying no resentment at being handled, poked and prodded. Her foster family has noticed that loud sounds or noises unfamiliar to her cause her to startle. This will likely be tempered with time and exposure to new things in her environment. Conversely, she experienced a summer thunderstorm with no problem.
Wendy’s best qualities are her absolutely sweet personality and her impeccable house manners. She is gentle and happy. Due to her reported past disagreements with other dogs, Wendy would probably be happier as an only dog.
