Original: “Watson’s the shy one of the duo, tentative if out on leash without him and definitely knows if Sherlock comes in from the yard before he does.”
When Watson’s owner’s elderly parents developed major health issues, he had to oversee their care in another state for about half of each month. With this huge time commitment, he knew that Watson and his litter brother Sherlock weren’t in the best situation spending so much time being boarded. So, he reluctantly decided that rehoming these Jersey boys was the best option and he contacted MAESSR.
Watson has lived his whole life with his brother Sherlock. Watson’s the shy one of the duo, tentative if out on leash without him and definitely knows if Sherlock comes in from the yard before he does. But he’s not nearly as shy as his foster mom expected him to be, just less “Hey, I’m the main guy” and more “I’m the side-kick.”
Completely housetrained and quietly crating all night, Watson has been an easy foster so far. When his foster folks are away, he’s crated but seems quite happy there. A mellow boy in the house and outside, he is still openly curious and loves to get pets and attention. He’s been known to win at tug-of-war over a stuffed animal with his brother and doesn’t give way to him when meals are produced; however, he’s not the instant best buddy that Sherlock seems to be. His foster mom foresees no problem with youngsters of any age with Watson; he would just retreat to his crate if they got too energetic.
Watson hangs back when others are grabbing the limelight. But he loves to join the morning pet-fest where all 3 dogs, including the resident hound, compete for back scratches and head rubs. He hangs out quietly either alone or close to his brother during the work day.
On walks, Watson pulls on the leash, though not badly. A harness helps. He’s fine in the car, doesn’t counter-surf, and is healthy and happy. He has 2 fatty masses, signs of age, but they’re a non-issue. He likes bring brushed, and doesn’t bark unless the others are (evil mailman usually gets a woof or two).
Watson and his brother Sherlock hope to get adopted by the same forever family as a set. They’re fairly bonded but that helps in a lot of ways. It saves on crates by just needing one. They are currently sleeping butt to butt in a reasonable sized crate, so they save energy by keeping each other warm. When out on leash as a set or in the house, they’re in sync and don’t hinder each other. Watson and Sherlock are energetic for 10 year olds and they’ve got more years to give. Most of all, they’re easy to have around. Consider doubling your happiness by adopting these brothers!
