When Warlord’s Maryland owner was no longer able to provide for his needs adequately, he became a MAESSR boy. He is nine years old and has sired many litters over the last eight years.
This 48 pound boy is enjoying his stay at his foster family’s home with one resident Sprocker (Springer-Cocker mix for anyone wondering.) Warlord sends most of his day resting, but he does go on daily walks. He visits with other MAESSR families and has been known to play in the yard with all of them. When other dogs give him a warning, he will back off. He’s very shy of new people but is curious enough to come up and sniff them once they sit still.
Warlord understands “no,” “off,” and “sit,” but is tentative with “come,” especially if said by a new person. During walks he does not pull on the leash, but he stops often to make sure his person is coming right behind him. He has no car issues; in fact, he jumps right in to go for a ride.
The perfect house guest, Warlord is completely housetrained and signals his need to go out by going to the door and scratching on it. When he first arrived, he would go outside but would not come back in through the door. His foster parents had to get creative and hide until he got in, and then quickly shut the door. He does not counter-surf but just sits straight up and stretches his neck to see what might be in store for him. He and the resident dog have the run of the house when their humans are home or not, and not one thing has ever been disturbed! When bedtime rolls around, Warlord sleeps though the night on his dog bed in his foster parents’ bedroom. He seems to like hard bones and is interested in the stuffed animals. He enjoys quiet, indoor activities and will come up next to his people to nudge a hand to pet him.
During his trips to the vet and the groomer, Warlord was perfect! He found the spa treatment very relaxing. He was very good about having his nails trimmed and having his ears cleaned. His vet trip was not as enjoyable. His exam showed really bad teeth – some were rotted to the root, while others were broken. He began antibiotics before his dental surgery and neuter. The dental resulted in a total of 12 extractions. Some almost fell out of his mouth, poor baby.
Warlord is taking it easy and resting after his neuter, scrotum ablation, and dental with extractions. He is on several medications post-surgery but should be feeling so much better within the next two weeks. A family that is willing to help him socialize slowly and gain his confidence will help this boy blossom into a wonderful companion. Keep an eye out on the sweet boy’s progress as he adjusts to his new life.
