Walter is a beautiful, sweet bench-bred boy. He is housebroken and crate-trained. He walks passably well on a leash. But, he’s a young boy and would do well with an obedience class. He was turned in for two reasons. His owner is moving to Japan, and she just finds Walter to be more than she can deal with.
Walter is a pleasure to have around. He is very mellow in the house; no romping. He mostly lies on the floor or in his crate (unless he is in a pacing mood). He loves to sleep on his foster mom’s feet or resting his head in her lap. But if you take him outside – Walter takes great joy in running around the yard, alerting to birds and anything that moves outside the fence. He plays chase and wrestles with the female German Shorthaired Pointer in his foster home, and will chase balls and sticks. He probably should have a fenced yard, as he does like to run and does not recall well.
He pulls on leash but not enough to make you fear for your shoulders. We think that he knew some commands but doesn’t know that he has to do them every time. He is quickly learning to sit promptly when asked, and one shot of bitter apple spray taught him the meaning of “go away”. Walter has a great temperament: you can take his food, shove pills down his throat, and take him off the furniture without a protest. He is a sweet, gentle boy who misses his family and needs to be part of a new one.
Walter is newly in foster care and being treated for whip worms, but he is doing well. He would be a great obedience or agility dog.
We know Walter’s lineage and will be following up with his breeder before we place him.
