Update 08/26/08:
Wally has completed heartworm treatment and is ready to be adopted. As well as improving his health, Wally’s manners have greatly improved also. He would not dream of countersurfing. Only very rarely does he mark now; otherwise, he is housetrained. He does well in a crate when his foster parents are at work.
Wally would absolutely love to go to an obedience class since he loves to learn and likes the attention that comes with it. Right now he only knows the command sit and he wears a harness when he goes on walks since he pulls on a leash. He would be a wonderful, willing passenger in the car on his way to his obedience classes or anywhere else you would want to go – even to the vet. He is wonderful at the vet’s office and he thinks the staff is just loving on him! His Springer brain thinks: Medical procedures? No. They just love to pet me and be close to me! Wally gives great hugs and being close to you makes him extremely happy. How about bringing this healthy, happy cuddle muffin into your life?
Update 07/08/08:
The days of roaming country roads are part of Wally’s past now. With a month in his foster home, he is progressing well in learning to be an inside boy. He is slowly learning not to counter surf and how to be calmer in the house. His heartworm treatment is continuing very well. He should be ready for adoption by the middle of August.
It’s not unusual for 2-year-old springers to still have some puppy ways about them. Wally is “puppy mouthy”. His family is working on that, but his adopting family will need to be aware of it, too. They also will need to know that Wally is a major cuddle bug and gives the best hugs!!!
More on Wally’s progress to come!
Original:
Wally was found as a stray wandering a rural country road. He did not have any house manners or training. His foster family has been working to teach him all the things a good dog should know. Wally is a quick learner, so it is going well. Wally’s favorite activity is to be petted and loved on.
As Wally’s heartworm treatment progresses, he will continue to learn all of the behaviors required to live inside with your family. Come back and check for updates on this pretty boy.
