Original: “As long as she has her bed and Salli Jo is in sight, Virginia is a happy girl, comfortable in her
surroundings.”
When a former Springer breeder and rescuer developed serious health issues and could no longer remain in her Pennsylvania home, the Springers she owned needed to find new homes. Virginia and her bonded buddy Salli Jo were taken to their vet clinic for updating on the vetting and then boarded until MAESSR could find them a foster home together.
Even though they were well cared for and loved by the kennel staff, Virginia and Salli Jo were thrilled to come to a home again. Like Salli, Virginia spent her first hours in foster care happily running and sniffing around the fenced yard. The resident male Springer was no friendlier to Virginia than he was to Salli Jo, but that did not faze Virginia. She continued her exploration of the yard while keeping an eye on the resident male to see how he was reacting to her being in his territory. Now, the three Springers just sniff each other and go their separate ways while in the yard without any play behavior exhibited among them. Virginia gets excited when she goes for a walk but she crisscrosses continuously getting the leash wrapped around her person’s legs. Once she is completely healed from her surgery, her foster parents will work on better leash behavior.
Virginia quickly adjusted to living in a house again. As long as she has her bed and Salli Jo is in sight, Virginia is a happy girl, comfortable in her surroundings. Although she is housetrained, she has had frequent accidents, in spite of frequent outside trips. When tested at the vet for an UTI, the results were normal. With the passing of time, Virginia’s accidents are becoming less frequent. The emotional upset of changing homes may be the cause and, as she adjusts to her new home, the accidents will hopefully subside. She has a crate in her new home and she responds to the request, “Kennel, please,” by going into her crate. What a good girl! Virginia also responds to “sit” and “stay.” Since coming into foster care, Virginia had mammary gland surgery and she is recuperating well from this.
A real Velcro girl, Virginia loves to sit in front of you and be petted and cuddled. When you stop, she puts out her paw to beg for more. At night, she chooses to sleep on her bed outside the bedroom, with or without Sallie Jo, who may sleep on another dog bed. She occasionally will walk into the bedroom during the night to sniff the human in the bed, but Virginia is not a couch or bed sleeper. Virginia is also a good car rider, with no fuss, no barking, no jumping around. She settles down quickly and rides quietly.
With lovely house manners, Virginia does not jump up on furniture and she would never bother the trash can. Her small stature makes her too small to reach the counters, so she does no counter-surfing. Of course, there is no inappropriate chewing done by Virginia. She is not a barker, but will whine briefly when her people leave the house. She settles down quickly, though, and is thrilled when her people return.
Since Virginia and Salli Jo are such bonded friends, MAESSR would like to place them together in a loving new home. Both are sweet, happy, and affectionate girls who are looking for a home where they can enjoy their golden years being showered in love.
