Update 09/20/10:
Vinny has responded extremely well to medications to clear up his skin, ears, and eye infections. When he came into MAESSR, he had lost about half of his hair. Now, he is completely covered with hair and it is getting smoother and softer every day. He is still on eye and ear medications, but he will be off of them soon. He takes his medicine extremely well. Within a couple of weeks, after he is completely well, Vinny will be neutered.
Like the smooth, soft coat Vinny is now growing, his overall temperament is smooth and on the soft side. He knows “sit,” he shakes hands, and he is working on “stay.” He is not food aggressive and eats well along with the resident dogs. He obeys pretty well in his unfenced yard and does not leave home. If he does wander a little, a stern “Vinny, come” brings him back. Vinny gets along extremely well with the 4 resident males at his foster home and doesn’t worry one bit about the cat in the house. He also has demonstrated no problems whatsoever with toddlers as young as 2 years old. He has not shown any aggressiveness at all towards people or other dogs.
Yes, he is a sweetheart and will make a fantastic companion to a furever family sometime in the near future. When that happens, his foster parents and step-brothers will miss him greatly.
Original:
As a result of Vinny’s former owner losing his home and being unable to care for him, this tri-colored boy came to MAESSR. He definitely landed in the right spot since he was in dire need of some TLC. Vinny had extreme hair loss and a yeast infection over his entire body. But, his health is improving!
Vinny has been to the vet and now is taking several medications to help his skin, eyes, and ears heal. A lovely patient, Vinny does not seem to mind the many medicated baths he must endure. He takes his meds without argument and does not fuss when getting drops in his ears and eyes. His foster home has seen a marked improvement in him already and is expecting the trend to continue.
Watch for more on this sweetheart as he heals.
