Victoria, or Tory for short, was found as a stray and when not claimed, the rural shelter contacted MAESSR. It is clear Tory lived inside at one time as she is housebroken to the point of going to the door or crying when she needs to go outside. She loves to play and is particularly drawn to running around with squeaky toys in her mouth. Although she will squeak a toy repeatedly, she does not destroy the toy! Tory’s primary goal is to be with people and she will “trill” with happiness when she is in their midst.
Tory is currently overweight and her love of food can be seen in her great interest in it. If given the chance, she will get as close as she can to anyone eating, giving a persistent stare in hopes someone may weaken and give her a treat. With a brisk “no” or a growl from one of her fellow Springer housemates, she will lay down away from the table. Her foster family is working with her losing several pounds and her new family will need to continue this. She is in overall good health and progressing well with treatment for two short-term infections.
In her multi-Springer foster home, Tory has done very well. She enjoys the other dogs and is appropriately submissive to them. She is actively playing with the two younger males and gives deference to the oldest male who is still trying to decide if she is staying. She sleeps on the floor of the master bedroom or on a dog bed bedside. She has done very well with crating during the day and settles right down. She will often take toys into her crate, happily playing with them there. A crate is also a safe haven for travel and Tory has proven herself as a good rider in one.
When it comes to her obedience skills, Tory has a good start. Her “sit” is solid and “down” and “stay” are about 50% consistent. She will pull on a leash and shows the same excitement when going on a walk as she does with playing with toys or running around the yard. Leash-walking is a training issue, and Tory has been extremely receptive to correction, so this should pose no problem either.
As she settles in her foster home, Tory is really coming into her own. She is a very big wiggler. She will be tested shortly with young children and cats, although with her warm and loving personality, no surprises are expected. All Tory will need is love and someone to play with. Is that you?????.
