Original: Poor Upton was relinquished to MAESSR by a well meaning family who had taken him in when friends of theirs were in the process of a divorce. As he settled in with the second family, there were major changes for Upton which brought about confusion and anxiety for him. After three months, it wasn’t working out very well for the family either. They felt he would be happier if placed in another home.
Fortunately, Upton has settled into his foster home very well. From the very start, Upton got along with the three resident springers. It took about five minutes of normal sniffing to get acquainted, and he fell right in line with their antics. He mingles and runs in the yard with the other dogs and sleeps on the bed with them at night.
While Upton did live with young children in his second home, he seems more comfortable and confident with older children and adults. He has quickly attached to his foster mom and follows her as she moves through the house. If there’s Jell-O to be made, he’s right in the kitchen to help. Upton loves to play fetch and will drop the ball at his foster mom’s feet. He will nose his foster dad’s “mouse” hand and allow him to scratch his ears and tummy until his dad’s hand is numb. Well, almost!!
Upton is housebroke and has learned to go to the back door when it’s time to go out. His foster family has had no need to crate him as he doesn’t bother anything in the house. He stays off of the furniture, although he will accept an invitation onto the “people” bed at night. He is a good rider in the car, often snoozing in the back seat.
The only problem that Upton has in his foster home is with the resident cats. At first, it seemed he would just enjoy chasing them, but after a little more time, he became a little more serious in his intentions. The cats are now taking refuge in the basement until Upton is adopted, and he will only be placed in a cat-free home.
Upton seems to be a happy little guy though somewhat unsure of his surroundings at times. His foster dad thinks that, despite his age, a Doggy 101 class would be good for him with his new family. He will be ready for them soon. He is in good health and will finish his vetting shortly. He is a bit underweight but will gain now that he is off of a low calorie dog food. He is a very sweet and handsome fellow. He’s almost regal when he stretches out in his trot. Whoever adopts Upton will be getting a very fine companion!!
