Update 01/02/08: Although the information available on Tugger had been encouraging, unfortunately, as he unfolded in his foster home, his temperament was such that he could not be offered for adoption.
Original: Tugger had been with his owners since he was a puppy. But the owners now have three young grandchildren and more on the way. As a result, Tugger was just not getting the attention and exercise that he really wanted and deserved. While Tugger had never shown signs of aggression with the toddlers, the owners were nervous about the situation and thought that there was a better family for Tugger out there. So, he was relinquished to MAESSR.
Tugger is fully housetrained and had been crate trained as a puppy, but not since. He does not like to be crated now, however. His foster family gives him full run of the house when they are gone and he has not been destructive. Tugger has had some obedience training and knows “sit” and “stay” but he thinks “come” is a negotiable command left to the dog’s discretion. Tugger likes going for walks and sitting on the couch with his people. He gets along well with the resident cocker spaniel, also. He barks to let his foster family know when someone is at the door and then greets the newcomers with a toy in his mouth.
When riding in a car, Tucker’s foster family puts him on a leash and he is restrained in the back seat. If the car trip is long, he may whine every hour just to be sure his humans haven’t forgotten about him. He can be bathed and brushed at home, but the vet must clip his nails since he really does not like to have his feet handled.
Tucker is looking for a forever home where his family will give him lots of attention. Do you have some love to spare?
