This sweet boy has had an interesting holiday season! First, Tucker was found as a stray and taken to the Reading, PA shelter. MAESSR was contacted about this Reading boy. Then, his owners were located, decided they did not want him back, and identified him as Pooch Man. How they could not have wanted this beautiful Springer is beyond belief! He had to get out of the full shelter immediately, so he had a temporary stay at a dairy farm. While being hosted for Christmas at the farm, he decided to help with the chores, so to speak. Tucker thought those cows were a bit fat and needed some exercise. He knew exactly what to do. He sent them into a stampede through the fence and back into the barn! What a little, cow-herding genius! He is now settled into his foster home in the suburbs, and now sends cats into a stampede.
Tucker is very handsome with a lovely black and white coat and cute Springer smile. At 50 pounds he is a bit thin for his big frame and could gain some weight. Foster mom is feeding him extra with each meal and is providing some yummy treats. Tucker loves to toss the kong in the air and swat it with his feet. He has shown some interest in running with the youngest resident Springer in his foster home, but is a bit stiff due to his case of Lyme Disease for which he is being treated Right now, his favorite activity is curling up at his foster mom’s feet and taking a snooze.
Tucker’s temperament is very sweet and laid back, he loves being the center of his human’s universe. He is a very vocal boy and will bark to get attention or whine to go outside. He gets along with the resident Springers in his foster home, but that is strictly because of his good nature. The small resident female Springer is not sure she likes him and has growled at him many times. But, Tucker just runs and hides behind the chair when she is being less than sociable. Outside, they run in fast circles and call it quits after a few minutes.
Tucker has wonderful house manners and has not had an accident since arriving in his foster home. He is fine with being crated, but he does not need it as long as there is another dog in the home. He does not counter surf, get on the furniture, raid the trash can, or jump on people. He knows “sit” and has just learned “calm down” and “lay still.” His car riding is another story; he will bark and pant most of the time while he is in the car. His foster mom is trying to teach him that car rides can be a good thing. He took a five minute ride to MacDonalds and was rewarded with a cheeseburger. A quick ride around the block with a big cookie at the beginning and the end has been another positive experience. His foster mom is taking a tougher approach on teaching him not to bark for attention. Tucker needs some leash work and his foster mom is now practicing with a sensation harness on Tucker in the backyard.
Tucker would like a forever home with another dog to keep him company when left alone. He would also enjoy a fenced yard as he loves to prance around without a leash. Are you the one that will give this sweet and beautiful springer his forever home?
