Update:
Tucker’s update is going upfront because he has made such wonderful progress. He’s still a little overweight, but he continues to lose weight and develop muscle mass in foster care. He gets along well with the other Springers in his house and loves everyone.
He is enjoying being in a house, well-loved and well-cared for. Other than his leg which will likely always be a bit of a problem for him, he is in excellent health. He is ready to go to his forever home.
Original:
Poor Tucker, with little or no explanation, he was dropped off at a shelter, we think by his owner. This poor guy has been allowed to become grossly obese. He weighs in at over 70 pounds!! As a result, his back end is unsteady. He seems to be a very nice sweet dog and is good with other dogs and cats. He will chase birds and squirrels like any Springer. At this weight, they have little worry he would ever catch them.
We have a foster home for Tucker!!! He will be moving there soon.
In the interim, a volunteer took him home for the weekend and to the vet for a general check-up. The good news is that Tucker’s overall health is good and he has a marvelous temperament. The bad news is that whomever owned Tucker in the past neglected him horribly. At some point, Tucker broke his right front leg. His “owners” never had it set – so it healed poorly. Tucker will always walk with a limp and has arthritis in that joint. They compounded the error by letting this boy get fat.
The muscles in his front leg have atrophied. With exercise, he may rebuild some of the muscles, but the leg will always be weak and he will always limp. He cannot go on long walks or walk up and down stairs. This special boy will always need more care than average.
Before you pity Tucker, know that he has that loving, wonderful Springer temperament. He loves everyone he meets. He is perfectly housebroken and has great inside manners.
Above is a picture of him sleeping with Cassie, another MAESSR dog. Cassie greeted him as if she had known him forever.
If you are looking for Springer love and personality without all of the Springer energy, this is the boy for you. He is simply wonderful and just wants to love and be loved.
Just wanted to let you all know that Tucker is settled into his foster home. His new “sisters”, Megan, Allison and Breeze like him a lot. He’s already picked out his favorite toy, and he plays with the girls nicely. We went for a walk around the yard. He really seems to like the grass. He even laid down and rolled around on his back and kicked his legs. After all that “exercise”, he came in the house and went to sleep, loudly sawing logs!!! He has really taken to my husband. I think Wayne is glad to have a “guy” around the house!!
