Tucker came to MAESSR because he was exhibiting some inappropriate growling and snapping when he had something he did not want to give up. His mom tried to work with him, but was not succeeding, and with two young children in the home, the parents were afraid of what might happen if one of the kids tried to take something from Tucker. The family was very distressed about losing Tucker, but knew MAESSR would find him a good home. The owners describe Tucker as a typical cuddly, Velcro Springer who adores people and children.
Tucker enjoys hiking and swimming outside and playing fetch in the house. He likes tennis balls, anything with a squeaker, string toys and bones—he’s a puppy! He knows basic commands (“sit,” “stay,” “come”) but he needs to work on them. Unfortunately, as with other slow eaters, he is not motivated by food or treats.
Tucker spends most of his outside time off leash but he does walk on leash also. This handsome fella does well at the groomer’s and vet’s office. The vet said, “He’s goofy but super sweet.” He loves getting a bath and being brushed; having his ears and feet handled is not an issue for this love.
Mr. T does suffer from car sickness and was pre-medicated with an anti-nausea medication before he was taken on long car rides. When Tucker would become a little anxious in the car, the previous owner would let him sit in the front seat so she could rub his head until he eventually calmed down.
Tucker seems to experience anxiety in some situations and appears to be feeling more comfortable since starting an inexpensive supplement. Also, as he moves forward, MAESSR will be requiring two series of obedience lessons within six months of adoption for this sweet boy. His foster mom feels the structure and repeated practice will help this “teenaged” boy settle down and become the best Springer he can be.
The most wonderful time of year is ahead for MAESSR folks and their dogs. Tucker will love hiking and playing in the fall leaves. This handsome lad is just waiting for his perfect family. And, as school starts again for many, he will also be eager to go to his own classes and learn the tricks of the Springer-trade.
